Job summary

The Structures Company is seeking a Systems Engineer 5 in El Segundo, CA, to design and verify next generation RF and digital satellite communication systems. You will develop multi-rate, fixed-point DSP algorithms and perform performance analysis of signal processing models to support space payloads from unit to in-orbit operations.

Responsibilities include HDL-level design support for FPGA/ASIC implementations, waveform development, and extensive use of Matlab or Simulink for algorithm

Qualifications

• Active Secret Security Clearance required to start.
• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
• 5+ years of experience in core digital communications and signal processing theory.
• 3+ years of experience with Matlab or Simulink.
• 3+ years of experience in systems engineering including requirements definition, allocation, verification, architecture design, and trade design.
• 1+ years of experience working with FPGAs or ASICs.
• Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscope, waveform generator, and spectrum analyzer.

Summary

Designs and develops next generation RF and digital satellite communication systems. Develops and verifies multi-rate, fixed-point signal processing algorithms. Conducts performance analysis of signal processing models. Performs waveform development and characterization. Performs trade studies for system design and performance optimization. Supports integration and test of payloads and spacecraft from unit level through in-orbit operations. Supports HDL-level design and verification for FPGA or ASIC implementations. Performs detailed system design and verification activities for space-based communication systems. Applies DSP and digital communications algorithms including equalization, turbo or Viterbi coding and decoding, channel estimation, filter design, and resampling theory. Uses Matlab or Simulink for algorithm development and performance analysis.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
• 5+ years of experience in core digital communications and signal processing theory.
• 3+ years of experience with Matlab or Simulink.
• 3+ years of experience in systems engineering including requirements definition, allocation, verification, architecture design, and trade design.
• 1+ years of experience working with FPGAs or ASICs.
• Experience in digital signal processing and digital communications algorithms including equalization, coding, decoding, channel estimation, filter design, and resampling theory.
• Preferred: Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscope, waveform generator, and spectrum analyzer.
• Preferred: Experience leading teams of engineers and 14+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
