Hologic, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Newark, Delaware.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced medical imaging systems and electromechanical subsystems, collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams to support hands‑on system integration. You will work with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to verify design, manage requirements, and drive testing activities that ensure product quality and regulatory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline as listed.
  • 1–2 years of experience with a technical bachelor’s degree, or 0–2 years with a master’s degree.
  • Experience with electromechanical design and embedded software in medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to specification, design, and system integration of medical imaging subsystems.
  • Develop understanding of architecture design and clinical use of imaging systems.
  • Support concept development, specification, and design of new products.
  • Implement electromechanical designs within cost, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting at system and subsystem levels.
  • Create design documentation and manage engineering change orders.

Job description

Hologic is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Newark, Delaware. In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced medical imaging systems and electromechanical subsystems that help improve clinical outcomes. This position requires regular onsite presence in Newark, DE to collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams and support hands‑on system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.

You will work alongside electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, scientists, and product owners to support the design, integration, verification, and validation of medical imaging technologies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to thespecification, design, component selection, system integration, verification, and validationof medical imaging systems and electromechanical subsystems.
  • Develop an in‑depth understanding ofsystem architecture design and clinical useof medical imaging systems.
  • Proposesystem definitions and specificationsto meet customer requirements and user needs.
  • Supportconcept development, specification, and designof new medical imaging products.
  • Implementnew electromechanical designs and modificationswithin defined cost, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Maintaintraceability between system requirements and subsystem requirements.
  • Maintain traceability betweenproduct requirements, identified risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Performhands‑on troubleshooting at system and subsystem levels.
  • Support engineering teams and system quality assurance throughconcept, implementation, and verification phases.
  • Collaborate with design engineers todefine test methods and conditions.
  • Completedesign documentation and Engineering Change Ordersin accordance with Hologic procedures and best practices.
  • Create project schedules,track progress, and report status or issuesto management and project teams.
  • Supportdesign transfer to manufacturing.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the division.
  • Managemultiple projects concurrentlyunder supervision.
  • Continue to buildtechnical expertise and professional development, contributing to innovative problem‑solving and product development.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree inSystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

Preferred minimum:

  • 1–2 years of experience with a technical bachelor’s degree, or
  • 0–2 years with a master’s degree.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience withelectromechanical design and embedded software development, ideally within themedical device field.
  • Experience withsystems integration across electrical, mechanical, and software components.
  • Knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strongcritical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity withphysical and mathematical modeling tools.
  • Knowledge ofmedical device regulations and standards, including: FDA QSR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601‑1 and IEC 60601‑1‑2, IEC 62304 (software lifecycle for medical devices)
  • Experience withProduct Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Strongcommunication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience withtechnical documentation and presentations.
  • SolidWorks experience is a plus

The annualized base salary range for this role $78,000 - $122,100 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
