Job Title: Systems Admin / Systems Engineer

As a Systems Admin / Systems Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in designing, maintaining, and modernizing the enterprise infrastructure that powers essential citywide operations.
This is a hands-on infrastructure role with broad ownership across Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, and enterprise systems administration. You’ll partner with technical leadership to strengthen core infrastructure, support modernization initiatives, and ensure the reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical technology environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and maintain enterprise Windows Server environments and VMware virtualization platforms.
- Administer Active Directory at an expert level, including architecture, Group Policy (GPO) design, replication, cleanup, and directory optimization.
- Manage the full lifecycle of physical and virtual server infrastructure.
- Administer SAN/NAS storage environments, including capacity planning, performance optimization, and data integrity.
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise backup and disaster recovery strategies that support long-term operational resilience.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell automation to streamline system administration and operational workflows.
- Lead operating system and application patching initiatives, including compliance reporting and remediation activities.
- Manage certificate issuance, renewals, and other infrastructure security updates.
- Implement, optimize, and maintain enterprise monitoring solutions for system availability, performance, and alerting.
- Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex infrastructure and systems issues.
- Present technical recommendations, project updates, and infrastructure roadmaps to technical leadership.
- Support ongoing modernization initiatives involving virtualization, Linux administration, infrastructure resiliency, and backup strategy improvements.
Education & Qualifications
- Expert-level experience administering Active Directory, including architecture, Group Policy management, replication, and remediation.
- Extensive experience with Windows Server administration and VMware virtualization.
- Strong hands-on experience managing enterprise server infrastructure and lifecycle planning.
- Proven experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation.
- Experience administering SAN/NAS storage systems and storage networking technologies.
- Strong understanding of operating system patching, lifecycle management, and infrastructure security best practices.
- Experience leading infrastructure initiatives involving multiple technical stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Linux administration, including system updates, patching, and scripting.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively engage technical leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work onsite five days per week.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with multi‑factor authentication (MFA) or identity and access management integrations.
- VMware Horizon or other VDI administration experience.
- Experience with secure file transfer technologies such as SFTP and FTP.
- Administration of IIS and/or Apache web servers.
- Exposure to hybrid cloud environments including AWS or Azure.
- Experience designing highly available server, virtualization, or storage architectures.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
- Pay Rate: $40 – $75 per hour
- 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
