Job summary

REGENT in Rhode Island is seeking a Systems Engineer on the Certification team to author, manage, and verify requirements for the Seaglider program. You will derive requirements from regulations and safety analyses and maintain traceability as the design evolves.

This hands-on role collaborates with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, develops verification procedures, conducts FHA/FTA/FMEA, and supports international and domestic certification.

Qualifications

• Experience in safety-critical, regulated environments (aerospace, maritime, medical, nuclear, or similar).
• Hands-on requirements engineering with traceability across lifecycle stages.
• Experience with system-level testing and verification approaches.
• Development of system safety and risk analyses like FHA/FTA/FMEA.

Role Overview

Every certified vehicle runs on a foundation of requirements: what the system must do, how we know it does it, and how that traces back to the regulations that make it safe to fly. As a Systems Engineer on our Certification team, you'll own that foundation for an assigned set of our commercial Seaglider program Viceroy’s systems - authoring, managing, and verifying requirements, deriving them from regulatory documents and system safety analyses, and keeping them traceable as the design evolves.

This is a hands‑on, artifact-producing role. You'll work directly with team leads across electrical, mechanical, and/or software engineering to derive and verify requirements, author verification procedures, and conduct system safety analyses for the systems you own. You'll manage all of it in our requirements management tool, where requirements traceability has to hold up to regulatory scrutiny. As you ramp, you'll take on more of Viceroy's systems and help sharpen how REGENT organizes this work company‑wide.

What You'll Do

• Derive and verify requirements. Work with team leads to author system, high-, and low-level requirements, and create and oversee the verification programs that confirm them.

• Work with multidisciplinary design teams. Ensure requirements are being tracked, provide design input and guidance, and help design teams resolve the challenges they hit in satisfying the system's requirements.

• Trace requirements to their source. Derive requirements from regulatory documents and standards, and from system safety analyses, keeping traceability current as Viceroy's design evolves.

• Conduct system safety analyses. Perform Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) for your assigned systems.

• Support certification compliance. Help ensure Viceroy's systems meet both international and domestic certification requirements.

• Own requirements management. Keep system-level requirements and their traceability to component-level and external requirements accurate and audit‑ready.

• Improve how we work. Bring recommendations for how REGENT's systems engineering processes and requirements organization can get better as the team and program scale.

What You'll Bring

• Demonstrated experience working independently on safety-critical systems in a regulated environment such as aerospace, maritime, medical, nuclear, or another highly regulated industry. This is an individual contributor role with meaningful technical ownership, not a people management position.

• Strong requirements engineering experience, including developing, documenting, tracing, and maintaining technical requirements throughout the development lifecycle, with hands‑on experience using tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, or equivalent platforms.

• Experience with system-level testing and verification, including developing test or verification approaches and working through results to demonstrate that requirements have been met.

• Experience developing system safety and risk analyses, such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

• A technical foundation that allows you to work effectively across engineering disciplines, with experience in areas such as aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or controls.

• Flying, sailing, or boating experience is a plus.
