Job summary

ITC Federal is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a multi-platform environment at Fort Meade, MD, onsite only. The role requires troubleshooting across Windows, Linux, VMware, and hybrid infrastructures, with emphasis on security compliance (STIG, NIST 800-53) and Tier 3 analysis.

You will work with cross-functional teams, maintain documentation, and assist in upgrades and patch cycles while ensuring operational security in a mission-focused government environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical experience in computer science, engineering, or IT-related field.
• 3–5+ years in a Systems Engineering or systems administration role.
• Active Federal SECRET Security Clearance.
• Security+ or equivalent IAT Level II qualifying Cyber Security certification.
• Hands-on Windows Server administration: AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP, IIS.
• Hands-on Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) incl. patching, STIG hardening, scripting.
• Experience administering VMware vSphere/ESXi: provisioning, vMotion, HA/DRS, datastores, snapshots.

Responsibilities

• Administer, troubleshoot, and optimize Windows Server environments (AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP, IIS).
• Administer Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), including patching, STIG hardening, service configuration, and scripting.
• Diagnose OS-level issues and collaborate across teams to resolve integration issues.
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi including VM provisioning, monitoring, vMotion, HA/DRS, datastores, and snapshots.
• Resolve virtualization issues across hosts, clusters, vCenter, networking, and storage integrations.
• Support hybrid environments with physical servers, VMs, and clustered services.
• Conduct Tier 3 root-cause analysis across OS, apps, network, and virtualization layers.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, TTPs, and O&M workflows and documentation.
• Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance, patch cycles, config changes, and upgrades.
• Install and configure systems hardware/software per DISA STIG, NIST SP 800-53, and security hardening guidelines.

The Systems Engineer will support a complex, multi-platform environment at Fort Meade, MD that includes Windows, Linux, VMware, and hybrid infrastructures. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, experience with STIG and patch compliance, and the ability to work across the operating system, application, network, and virtualization layers.

Candidates must be comfortable performing Tier 3 analysis, maintaining documentation, and executing maintenance windows in a mission-focused environment. This role is customer-facing and embedded within the client's secure location, so a professional approach to troubleshooting, operational security, and resolution of end-user issues is paramount.

Responsibilities

• Administer, troubleshoot, and optimize Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
• Administer Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), including patching, STIG hardening, service configuration, and shell scripting.
• Diagnose complex OS-level issues and analyze logs; collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to resolve system and network interaction issues.
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi, including VM provisioning, monitoring, vMotion, HA/DRS, datastores, and snapshot lifecycle.
• Resolve virtualization issues involving hosts, clusters, vCenter, networking, and storage integrations.
• Support hybrid environments combining physical servers, virtual machines, and clustered services.
• Conduct Tier 3 root-cause analysis across the operating system, application, network, and virtualization layers.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, TTPs, O&M workflows, and operational documentation.
• Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance windows, patch cycles, configuration changes, and system upgrades.
• Perform installation and configuration of systems hardware and software in accordance with DISA STIG, NIST SP 800-53, and other applicable security hardening guidelines.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an IT-related discipline, or equivalent related technical experience.
• 3–5+ years of experience in a Systems Engineering or systems administration role.
• Active Federal SECRET Security Clearance.
• Security+ or equivalent IAT Level II qualifying Cyber Security certification.
• Hands-on Windows Server administration experience: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and IIS.
• Hands-on Linux administration experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), including patching, STIG hardening, service configuration, and shell scripting.
• Experience administering VMware vSphere/ESXi, including provisioning, vMotion, HA/DRS, datastores, and snapshot management.
• Demonstrated Tier 3 troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across OS, application, network, and virtualization layers.
• Experience with STIG and patch compliance, and with developing and maintaining SOPs, TTPs, and O&M documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.

Desired

• Understanding of Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) technologies and layered security concepts.
• Experience supporting solutions aligned with NSA CSfC Capability Packages (Mobile Access preferred).
• Ability to build, document, and maintain CSfC-compliant architectures.
• Preferred certifications: RHCSA, Linux+, LPIC-1, LPIC-3, VCA, VCP, CKA, KCNA, or Microsoft Windows Server Administrator Associate.
• Working knowledge or experience with systems and security tools such as Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), Nessus, and Splunk.
• Knowledge of automating provisioning, patching, and troubleshooting of server deployments and processes.
• Prior management or lead experience strongly desired.
