Job description

Location: Denver, Colorado
Compensation: Competitive base salary + package
Environment: Smallsat Design and Manufacturing

What if your next systems engineering role wasn't about maintaining a programme that's already been built?

What if you could help shape the satellites themselves?

EVONA is working with a fast-growing space company that's expanding its presence in the US and looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join its team in Denver, Colorado.

This is an opportunity for someone who understands small satellites, enjoys solving difficult engineering problems and wants to work somewhere where decisions turn into hardware and missions quickly.

You'll be joining a fast-paced, hands-on smallsat engineering and manufacturing environment, developing advanced software-flexible satellites for commercial, government and scientific missions.

The opportunity

As a Systems Engineer, you'll sit at the centre of the spacecraft development process.

You'll work directly with customers to understand what they're trying to achieve, translate those mission objectives into clear technical requirements, and then work alongside hardware and software engineering teams to turn those requirements into a satellite solution that works.

You'll be involved from the early conversations and system definition right through the development lifecycle towards deployment.

This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit requirements and manage documentation.

You’ll help define them.

You’ll challenge them.

And you’ll work with the engineering teams to make sure the spacecraft ultimately delivers what the mission requires.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll define and manage spacecraft system and subsystem requirements, translating high-level customer and mission needs into clear engineering requirements.

You’ll work across satellite subsystems including communications, power, propulsion and other spacecraft systems, ensuring everything comes together at system level.

You’ll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to refine technical solutions and resolve system-level challenges.

You’ll also communicate directly with customers, evaluating technical requirements and helping develop and negotiate satellite and subsystem solutions.

Throughout the programme, you’ll help drive projects from initial concept through development and ultimately deployment.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who has already spent meaningful time designing and developing small satellites.

You'll Ideally Bring
  • 5+ years' experience designing and developing nanosatellites and/or small satellites
  • A BSc or MSc in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of satellite systems and subsystems, including communications, power and propulsion
  • Experience turning high-level technical needs into well-defined system and subsystem requirements
  • Experience working directly with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong written, verbal and visual technical communication skills
  • The ability to communicate complex systems through schematics, sequences and state diagrams

You’ll need to be based in the Denver area or willing to relocate to Colorado.

Due to the nature of the work, you’ll also need to be a US citizen or US permanent resident.

What would really make you stand out?

Perhaps you've worked with mission budgets covering power, link or delta-V.

Might you have experience with SolidWorks, DFMEA, UML/SysML or have a working knowledge of C/C++ or Python.

Experience with project and risk management or tools such as Jira and Confluence would also be valuable.

You don't necessarily need every one of these.

What matters most is that you understand spacecraft, can think at system level and enjoy solving complex engineering problems.

Why Apply?

You’ll get the opportunity to work on real spacecraft and genuinely influence how they're designed.

This is a fast-paced, delivery-focused engineering environment tackling difficult technical problems and developing next-generation satellite technology.

You’ll collaborate with highly experienced international engineering teams and have opportunities for occasional international travel.

The Package Includes
  • Salary of $145,000–$195,000
  • Health insurance
  • Matching 401(k)
  • Generous team performance-based bonus
  • Continued technical learning and development
  • International collaboration and occasional travel

Most importantly, you'll be joining at an exciting stage of growth.

If you've spent the last few years designing small satellites and you're ready for a role where you can have a much bigger impact on the spacecraft, the mission and the engineering decisions behind them, I'd love to hear from you.
