Job summary

American IT Systems seeks a Mechanical Engineer with 1+ year of engineering experience to review compression system designs for code compliance and customer requirements. You will consult with Project Engineers and Sales to align specifications with contract needs and engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Preferred: experience with compression systems, P&ID, ERP, heat transfer products.

Responsibilities

• Review compression system design for compliance with codes and customer specs.
• Consult with Project Engineer and Sales to finalize compliance with customer specifications and design requirements.
• Review codes (ASME, CRN, NFPA, AWS, IBC) for system compliance.
• Generate project P&ID and coordinate with Mechanical Design Engineers on standard products.
• Review and approve production drawings; provide design improvements and act as a technical resource.
• Prepare specifications for custom equipment and work with procurement to obtain quotations.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to address design issues and improve processes and methods.

Job description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Review compression system design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, contract requirements, and related codes and specifications. Consult with the Project Engineer and Sales to settle degree of compliance with customer specifications and design requirements.

2. Review and interpret codes and standards (ASME, CRN, NFPA, AWS, IBC, etc.) for system compliance.

3. Make system component selections while generating a project P&ID. Confer with Mechanical Design Engineers on standard products included in the project.

4. Conduct all necessary calculations, design reviews with production, and develop all custom documentation required for project execution.

5. Review and approve production drawings for custom systems, adding recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency. Chip in as a technical resource to the shop, customers, sales, and other departments to address and resolve questions and problems.

6. Prepare specifications for custom equipment and work with procurement to obtain quotations.

7. Participate in multi-functional teams to address new design issues and resolve problems to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field with 1+ years of engineering experience. Ability to understand and address a wide variety of technical problems with little mentorship.

Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely in writing and other presentation formats. Working experience with AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD software.

Must be an outstanding teammate, willing to learn from experienced staff and capable of introducing positive changes. Ability to travel 5-10%. Preferred:

Previous experience with Compression systems or other pressure piping systems. Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).

Understanding of manufacturing BOM structure and ERP.

Previous experience in heat transfer products or thermodynamic systems.

Ability to coordinate and lead teams with varied strengths to implement changes and improvements.
