Job summary

Applied Materials is seeking a specialist to assist with system prototype development, testing, and calibration data workflows at our Benicia, California site. You will communicate solutions to engineers and help ensure performance matches specifications while contributing to scalable commissioning processes.

The role requires a BS in a related engineering field, travel up to 10%, and potential alignment with a market-competitive compensation package including bonus opportunities and stock

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Physics or Materials Science.
  • MS/PhD is a plus.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
  • Experience with X-ray systems or optics is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with system prototype development and build and provide feedback to teams.
  • Design and perform iterative testing to ensure systems meet specs.
  • Develop workflows for system calibration and data acquisition.
  • Improve system commissioning process for consistency and scalability.
  • Adapt quickly to prototype changes with demanding deadlines.
  • Be detail-oriented and document changes and notes during product development.
  • Install finished product at customer sites and conduct site acceptance tests.

This position is located in Benicia, California

  • Assist with system prototype development and build, as well as provide feedback to other teams in a timely manner, and effectively communicate solutions to relevant engineers
  • Design and perform iterative testing in a systematic manner to ensure systems meet specifications
  • Develop workflows for system calibration and data acquisition
  • Look for ways to improve system commissioning process for consistency and scalability
  • Be able to adapt and provide feedback quickly to changes in a prototype system with demanding deadlines
  • Be detail‑oriented and diligent in documenting changes and notes as the product is developed.
  • Install finished product at customer sites and conduct site acceptance testing with customers present
  • Assist with customer demos and applications
Skills
  • Able to work independently to formulate and test hypotheses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a team environment
  • Excellent data analysis skills: ability analyze and manipulate large datasets quickly
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities according to current demands
  • Ability to deliver solutions under tight deadlines
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering required (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, or Materials Science)
  • Work experience/Master’s/Ph.D. is a plus
  • Be able to travel domestically and internationally to assist with in‑field installations (max expected percentage travel is 10%, but subject to change)
Additional Skills Of Interest
  • Familiarity or experience with X-ray systems, specifically XRF is a strong plus
  • Experience in Python scripting is a strong plus
  • Experience with hardware control (motion control systems and automation/robotics) is a plus
  • Familiarity or experience with optics and microscopes is a plus
  • Understanding of semiconductor industry trends is a plus

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
