Project Kuiper Overview

Project Kuiper is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. As a Systems Development Manager in the Kuiper Identity Infrastructure team, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for managing user, device, and automation identities across Kuiper's internal manufacturing and productivity networks.

Export Control: This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
  • Strategic Planning: Define and execute the technical roadmap for device management systems, aligning with Kuiper's broader technical strategy and business objectives.
  • Architecture Leadership: Drive architectural decisions for Identity in Cloud and On-Premises network environments, including critical services such as Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Program Management: Oversee multiple concurrent projects related to device management, security compliance, and infrastructure scaling.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align priorities and deliver results.
  • Resource Planning: Manage team capacity, prioritize workloads, and ensure efficient resource allocation across projects.
  • Technical Excellence: Establish best practices, engineering standards, and quality metrics for the team.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all systems meet required security standards (NIST, FIPS) and maintain regulatory compliance.
A Day in the Life

As a Systems Development Manager, you'll balance strategic leadership with hands‑on technical guidance. Your day might include:

  • Leading team meetings and technical design reviews.
  • Meeting with stakeholders to align on priorities and roadmap.
  • Reviewing and approving technical designs and architecture decisions.
  • Mentoring team members and providing technical guidance.

About the Team

You will lead the Kuiper Identity Infrastructure (KII) team, responsible for Kuiper's internal user, device, and automation identities. Your team will play a crucial role in scaling our operations and supporting Kuiper's mission to deliver reliable internet globally through innovative device management solutions and automation.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading edge IT organization experience.
  • 5+ years of managing system or software development teams experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant hands‑on systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, operating systems experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience in systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization.
  • Experience in managing system or software development teams.
  • Experience (hands‑on) in systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • Experience in agile software development methodology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
  • Experience with Agile engineering practices (Kanban, continuous delivery, etc.).
  • Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $149,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $258,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
