Amazon LEO (Project Kuiper) seeks a Systems Development Engineer to design and manage both physical servers and cloud infrastructure. You will support Linux (RHEL) and Windows environments for critical design and manufacturing tools, and coordinate changes through formal procedures with engineering teams.
The role emphasizes automation, uptime, and scalable infrastructure, including disaster recovery planning and ongoing system improvements within a satellite R&D context.
Amazon LEO (Project Kuiper) is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we've designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

This Systems Development Engineer role focuses on supporting essential Leo shared services and specific design‑manufacturing functional domains like Printed Circuit Board and Application Specific Integrated Circuit design. These functions require managed software services, lab environments, infrastructure for their software, and data all in support of satellite research and development. You'll design environments and manage both their physical and cloud infrastructure, which includes operating systems administration across RedHat EnterpriseLinux (RHEL) and Windows, used by the business critical design functions.
The position requires hands‑on management of server deployments, system maintenance, and infrastructure improvements while ensuring consistent uptime for engineering teams. Working directly with stakeholders, you'll gather requirements, plan improvements, and implement changes through formal change control processes. Success in this role demands strict adherence to change management procedures to maintain system stability, including proper documentation, stakeholder approval, and scheduled maintenance windows. You'll balance urgent system needs with controlled changes while maintaining both cloud and physical environments supporting satellite development operations.
Your day begins reviewing system alerts and performance metrics across the Siemens ASIC, EDM, and Team Center environments. You'll handle RHEL Linux system maintenance while coordinating with engineering teams to schedule critical updates through the change management process. Time is split between managing physical server infrastructure and cloud resources, often troubleshooting application performance issues that impact satellite design work. You'll participate in planning meetings to understand upcoming engineering needs, then translate those requirements into infrastructure improvements. Throughout the day, you'll handle urgent support requests from design teams, implement approved changes during designated maintenance windows, and document system modifications. You'll write and test automation scripts to improve system reliability, while maintaining backup and recovery procedures for critical engineering data. The role requires constant prioritization between immediate operational needs and long‑term infrastructure planning, all while ensuring proper change control procedures are followed to maintain stability of these essential engineering systems.
