In this role you join a team of highly talented engineers building and supporting Amazon’s billing systems in air‑gapped cloud environments, and you develop services and tooling to improve how we operate these services. Your work unlocks the latest billing and cost‑management capabilities for our U.S. ADC customers.
A successful Systems Development Engineer focuses on building services and tooling that enhance our operational posture, and thinks about the scalability, availability, and operational readiness of their designs. You work at the intersection of business problems and technology strategy, balancing constraints and considering the long‑term impact of your decisions.
This position requires an active TS/SCI with polygraph clearance (or equivalent). After starting, you must obtain and maintain that clearance for each agency for which you perform AWS work.
You will work in a fast‑paced environment. Typical tasks include deep diving to root‑cause customer issues, investigating why metrics trend incorrectly, consulting with senior engineers, and designing radical approaches to automate remediation of operational issues. You will operate, engineer, and maintain systems at massive scale, improving distribution, response, measurement, and automation to support rapid platform growth and government service efficiency.
