Champions Oncology, Inc. is hiring a Systems Administrator to keep our hybrid IT environment secure, stable, and well documented. You will manage the servers, identity services, endpoints, and cloud resources that our scientists and business teams rely on.

This role requires independence, handling escalations from the help desk, and ongoing improvements to how systems are built and supported. Our work involves regulated data and a strong emphasis on security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory in a hybrid environment.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune or comparable endpoint management tools.
• Strong networking knowledge: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls.
• Ability to automate using PowerShell or similar scripting languages.
• Understanding of security practices such as least privilege, MFA, patch management, and logging.
• Clear written communication and ability to document procedures for others.

Responsabilités

• Administer and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS and DHCP in a hybrid on-prem and cloud environment.
• Manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune including user lifecycle and device compliance.
• Maintain virtualized infrastructure, storage, and backups with capacity monitoring and restore testing.
• Patch and update servers and endpoints on a defined schedule using RMM tools.
• Operate and tune security controls; triage alerts and assist in remediation.
• Onboard/offboard users and manage access changes per approved processes.
• Create and maintain runbooks and system documentation.
• Support audits and security questionnaires from customers, vendors, and regulators.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical issues and planned maintenance.

Reports to: IT Operations Manager

Location: Rockville, MD (hybrid)

Primary Objective

Champions Oncology is hiring a Systems Administrator to keep our hybrid IT environment secure, stable, and well documented. You will manage the servers, identity services, endpoints, and cloud resources that our scientists and business teams rely on. The role suits someone who can work independently, handle escalations from the help desk, and improve how systems are built and supported. Our work handles sensitive research and regulated data, so security and documentation are part of the job, not extras.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP in a hybrid on-prem and cloud environment.
• Manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune, including user and endpoint lifecycle, access groups, device compliance, and application deployment.
• Maintain virtualized infrastructure, storage, and backups, including capacity monitoring and restore testing.
• Patch and update servers and endpoints on a defined schedule using remote monitoring and management tools, and report on compliance.
• Operate and tune our security controls, including endpoint protection, application control, and data loss prevention. Triage alerts and help remediate findings.
• Carry out onboarding and offboarding steps and access changes under documented approval.
• Write and maintain runbooks, system documentation, and change records.
• Provide evidence and support for customer, vendor, and regulatory audits and security questionnaires.
• Join an on-call or after-hours rotation for critical issues and planned maintenance windows.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working experience with Windows Server and Active Directory in a hybrid environment.
• Working experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune or a comparable endpoint management tool.
• Solid grounding in networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewalls.
• Experience with PowerShell or another scripting language for automation.
• Understanding of security practices such as least privilege, MFA, patch management, and logging.
• Clear written communication, including documentation others can follow.
• Ability to prioritize across several requests and work with minimal supervision.

Preferred

• Experience with AWS administration.
• Familiarity with virtualization (VMware preferred), backup, and storage fundamentals.
• Experience with a remote monitoring and management platform.
• Exposure to compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, or SOX IT general controls.
• Experience in a regulated or life sciences environment.
• Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft (MD-102, AZ-104, SC-300), CompTIA Security+.

Education and Experience

• 2 to 5 years of experience as a systems administrator or in a similar infrastructure role.
• Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Hybrid schedule based in Rockville, MD, with regular on-site days. The role includes occasional on-call duty and after-hours maintenance windows. Must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer in a typical remote office environment.
