Job summary

Nelson-Jameson, Inc. in Seattle seeks an IT Operations professional to maintain knowledge of hardware and software, and to work with the VP of IT to improve the company’s computer systems, PCs, and networking equipment.

You will install and maintain hardware/software and intranet/Internet connections, provide second-line support, and manage MSSQL Server 2016 backups while developing disaster recovery plans. Two to three years IT ops experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years in IT operations with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with MSSQL Server administration and backups.
  • Ability to develop disaster recovery plans and maintain IT policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide application support and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Define system requirements, priorities, and viable alternatives.
  • Coordinate the efforts of staff to locate, assess, install, test, and maintain computer software systems.
  • Coordinate conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.
  • Database administration for MSSQL Server 2016, including implementing automation scripts.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a disaster recovery plan for IT operations.
  • Provide second-line technical support to staff via the help desk system.
  • Assist Web Team in administering and developing the company website as necessary.

Job Summary

Maintain current and adequate knowledge of existing Nelson-Jameson, Inc. hardware and software to maximize efficiency of our systems and users' utilization of them. Work with VP of IT to maintain and improve the company's primary computer system, PCs, and networking equipment. Install and maintain computer hardware/software and intranet/Internet connections.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide application support and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Define system requirements, priorities, and viable alternatives.
  • Coordinate the efforts of staff to locate, assess, install, test, and maintain computer software systems.
  • Coordinate conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.
  • Database administration for MSSQL Server 2016, including implementing operational automation using scripts.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a disaster recovery plan for IT operations.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of operating systems and application software to provide high levels of support to users beyond help desk resolution.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the VP of IT for system components.
  • Recommend improvements to computers, networks, and system functions to the VP of IT as needed.
  • Maintain all other office equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinate training of new employees on general login information, email, and phone system usage.
  • Automate, track, and resolve database‑related incidents and requests; review service reports (e.g., database backups, maintenance, monitoring) daily.
  • Recommend and implement IT policies, standards of practice, and security measures to safeguard information resources.
  • Provide technical support as a second line of support to staff via the help desk system.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for Windows domain and application servers, Zoom Phone System, SQL servers, EDI, Content Management, Remote Access, Wireless Access, and e‑commerce as well as various application software.
  • Add and maintain users on the network; assign application access, ensure security, and maintain configurations within standards.
  • Assist internal Web Team in administering and developing the company website as necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of developments in systems and their use within the industry.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience

Education: High school degree or equivalent.

Experience: 2‑3 years in IT operations with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.

Preferred Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.

Experience: Data management techniques, including backup, recovery, and database design and administration.

What We Offer

Compensation: $75,000 – $80,000 per year.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle, feel, talk, or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, or stoop, and may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

An office environment is typical, with occasional visits to the warehouse. The noise level is generally quiet.

Work Week
  • Hours: 42–45 hours per week.
  • Days: Monday–Friday.
  • Weekends: As required.
