Job summary

RJM Technologies seeks an experienced Systems Administrator to support mission-critical IT in a Department of Defense environment at Fort Meade. The role focuses on Windows Server administration, Active Directory, virtualization, system security, and modernization initiatives.

The candidate will troubleshoot across servers, AD, virtualization, networking, and security, coordinating with government customers and technical teams to ensure secure, reliable operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience may substitute for degree.
  • 4+ years hands-on Windows Server administration and security.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Strong Active Directory experience including GPOs, OU, accounts, permissions.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot Windows servers, AD, DNS/DHCP, and related infrastructure.
  • Manage Microsoft services and enterprise platforms across DoD environment.
  • Perform system hardening, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and STIG compliance.
  • Plan upgrades, migrations, and modernization of Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Configure and troubleshoot VMware and/or Hyper‑V environments.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and procedures.
  • Provide basic network administration in Cisco-based environments.

Systems Administrator – DoD Environment

Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support mission-critical IT infrastructure in a Department of Defense environment.

This is a hands‑on position focused primarily on Windows Server administration, Active Directory, virtualization, system security, and infrastructure modernization. You’ll be responsible for keeping systems secure, reliable, and available while also supporting upgrades, migrations, and other modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a strong troubleshooter who is comfortable working across servers, operating systems, virtualization, networking, and security and can communicate effectively with both technical teams and government customers.

What You’ll Do
  • Administer, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot Windows servers, physical hosts, virtual machines, workstations, and other endpoint systems.
  • Manage Microsoft infrastructure including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file/print services, and related enterprise platforms.
  • Administer Active Directory domains, organizational units, Group Policy, user and computer accounts, permissions, and domain services.
  • Perform system hardening, STIG implementation, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and other DoD security compliance activities.
  • Plan and execute Windows Server upgrades, migrations, technology refreshes, and modernization efforts.
  • Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot VMware and/or Hyper‑V virtual environments.
  • Use PowerShell, command‑line utilities, and other management tools to troubleshoot and automate Windows system administration.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, availability, performance, and security and address potential problems before they affect operations.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving Windows systems, applications, hardware, Active Directory, virtualization, and network connectivity.
  • Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, Continuity of Operations (COOP), and system recovery activities.
  • Provide basic to intermediate network administration and troubleshooting in Cisco‑based environments, including switches, routers, VLANs, IP addressing, and connectivity.
  • Support infrastructure projects from requirements and planning through testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, system configurations, and operational records.
What We’re Looking For
  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification.
  • Active DoD Secret or higher security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Systems Administration, or a related field preferred; additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience administering, maintaining, troubleshooting, and securing Microsoft Windows Server environments.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, and 2019, along with knowledge of current Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience planning and executing Windows Server upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts.
  • Experience managing Microsoft server infrastructure in a DoD enterprise environment.
  • Strong Active Directory experience, including Group Policy, organizational units, authentication, permissions, domain services, and account administration.
  • Experience with VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V.
  • Experience using PowerShell and command‑line tools for administration, automation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with system hardening, vulnerability remediation, patch management, logging, monitoring, and configuration management.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, hardware, software, networking, and infrastructure.
Nice to Have
  • Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification (AZ‑800/AZ‑801) or comparable experience.
  • Experience with SCCM/MECM.
  • Experience with DNS, DHCP, SMTP, and enterprise printer management.
  • Experience with Cisco routers and switches, VLANs, TCP/IP, subnetting, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Windows patching, STIG implementation, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation in classified or security‑sensitive environments.
