Tecolote is seeking a motivated Systems Administrator to support and maintain our enterprise IT environment in Arlington, VA. The role emphasizes Microsoft services, endpoint management, and hardware administration, with opportunities to broaden into virtualization, security, and cloud technologies.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn, troubleshoot a wide range of issues, and contribute to a secure, reliable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Solid foundational experience in Microsoft services, endpoint management, and hardware administration.
• Exposure to virtualization, security, and cloud technologies is a plus.
• Knowledge of security/compliance frameworks (CMMC, NIST) is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide endpoint, device, and tier-two support including end-user issues, workstation builds, and troubleshooting.
• Manage on-prem infrastructure including Dell PowerEdge servers and storage systems.
• Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Windows Server administration.
• Assist with documentation, IT policies, and security best practices.
• Collaborate with senior team members to resolve complex infrastructure issues.
• Support Intune for device configuration, application deployment, and security baselines.
• Assist with VMware vSphere 8 administration and capacity planning.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated Systems Administrator to support and maintain our enterprise IT environment. This role is ideal for someone with solid foundational experience in Microsoft services, endpoint management, and hardware administration who is ready to broaden their skill set across virtualization, security, and cloud technologies. The right candidate is eager to learn, comfortable troubleshooting a wide range of issues, and able to contribute to a secure and reliable infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Endpoint, Device, and Tier-Two Support

• Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online
• Support Intune for device configuration, application deployment, and security baselines
• Provide hands‑on support for helpdesk agents on end‑user issues, workstation builds, and system troubleshooting

Hardware, Servers, and On‑Prem Infrastructure

• Maintain Dell PowerEdge servers, storage systems, and network‑connected devices
• Assist with monitoring and upkeep of PureStorage SAN and Ubiquiti/Unifi equipment
• Support routine maintenance tasks, updates, and basic performance checks

Windows Server & Directory Services

• Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and general Windows Server administration
• Assist with identity, access control, and security hardening tasks

Documentation & Operations

• Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and changes
• Follow IT policies, standards, and security practices
• Work with senior team members to elevate and resolve complex issues

Skills Required

Qualifications

• Exposure to VMware, Zscaler, or AWS environments
• PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting experience
• Certifications such as Microsoft 365/Windows Server, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or AWS Cloud Practitioner
• Understanding of security or compliance frameworks (CMMC, NIST, etc.)

Additional Value‑add Skills

• Assist with VMware vSphere 8 administration (vCenter, ESXi, Horizon View)
• Participate in capacity planning, uptime monitoring, and host maintenance

Network Security & Access

• Help enforce access controls, identity policies, and security configurations
• Support AWS environments for foundational tasks (EC2, S3, basic Terraform interaction)
• Participate in team efforts to automate and modernize infrastructure

Salary Range: $55,000 -$75,000/year, DOE

Education

Bachelors degree preferred, preferably in management information systems, math or engineering. Additional degrees or certifications may subsitute for years of experience.
