Job summary

Bastion in Pasadena, California seeks a System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert to support multiple projects focused on system safety requirements and hazard analyses.

You will develop PHL, PHA, FHA, SHA, and SAR documents, participate in design reviews and safety meetings, and coordinate with test range safety teams. Occasional travel may be required; a Top-Secret clearance is required.

The System Safety Engineer, Subject Matter Expert will support the various projects located in Pasadena, California. This position is focused on system safety requirements and safety hazard analyses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate hardware and software ensuring mission success.
• Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings.
• Support the development and updating of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements.
• Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements.
• Coordinate with test range safety teams and writing range safety reports to support testing.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards and their mitigation strategy for the program.
• This position has potential to support various software safety activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

• This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering.
• Must have 10+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Must have an active Top-Secret security clearance.
• Must have experience working in systems safety working groups - SSWG, WSESRB, SSSTRP, etc.
• Experience building and communicating a safety case for re-design/risk acceptance.
• Must have requirements management and development experience, to include DOORS and/or CRADL.
• Ability to interface with customer and program management.

WORK LOCATION:

• This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
• Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

• Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
• Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
• Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.

SALARY RANGE:

$160,000 - $175,000/yr. salary will depend on education and experience.
