Job summary

HDR is seeking a System Protection and Studies Engineer to join our Irvine, CA team. The role focuses on protective relay calculations, coordination studies, and reporting to ensure reliable power delivery. You will collaborate with P&C and substation design groups and may travel locally as needed.

The candidate should have a PE license and a strong background in power system protection, with experience in preparing client reports and protective relay construction support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Microsoft Office and power market sector design software proficiency (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).
• California PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform protective relay calculations and determine relay set points.
• Conduct protective relay coordination studies using short-circuit modeling software.
• Produce relay coordination compliance reports for applicable NERC-PRC standards.
• Create communication settings for protective relays and client reports.
• Provide protective relay construction support and assist design reviews.
• Coordinate with substation design disciplines and work under supervision, with potential travel.
