Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer (Engineer III) for the Power Sector to collaborate with a diverse team on utility, generation and municipal projects nationwide.

You will perform fault analysis, set up relay protection, and coordinate with clients while leading technical reviews and managing project deliverables and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT preferred.
  • 5 or more years of electrical engineering experience in relay settings is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typical transmission, substation and distribution protection applications.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for power systems analysis, fault current analysis, protection coordination, protective relay settings and documentation development and review.
  • Evaluate equipment specifications and application of new equipment based on standards.
  • Develop protection standards and templates for customer use.
  • Develop custom logic and control schemes.
  • Provide oversight of all aspects of critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Promotes efficient flow of information and ensure record keeping.
  • Travel as necessary for this position.

Overview

To meet growing demand, the System Protection & Automation Engineering group within the Power Sector at TRC is seeking aSenior System Protection Engineer(Engineer III) to work closely with a diverse team of System Protection and Automation & Integration engineers on projects for utility, generation and municipal clients across the country.

Successful applicant will be responsible for fault analysis, developing relay settings and related documentation for protective relays and control IEDs. Expected to follow client requirements and internal company quality control and quality assurance practices.

Expected to serve as the interface with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters. Expected to serve as engineering lead or technical reviewer on assigned projects. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and project management team members to coordinate overall project deliverables and be responsible for helping maintain project budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for power systems analysis, fault current analysis, protection coordination, protective relay settings and documentation development and review for a variety of equipment and applications.
  • Evaluate equipment specifications and application of new equipment based on customer and industry standards.
  • Development of protection standards and templates for customer use.
  • Develop custom logic and control schemes.
  • Provide oversight of all aspects of critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepares and/or reviews project scopes and concepts.
  • Performs checking on projects for accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as engineering lead on assigned projects.
  • Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
  • Responsible for effective project planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Ensure the effective technical support of department needs and requirements.
  • Represent the company and its clients on technical matters.
  • Assist field personnel during testing and commissioning, answering questions and ensuring the test results are acceptable.
  • Travel as necessary is required for this position.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or EIT preferred
  • 5 or more years of electrical engineering experience in relay settings is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typical transmission, substation and distribution protection applications
  • Experience with ASPEN and Accelerator Quickset software required. Experience with ETAP, SKM, CYME, CAPE and other manufacturer relay software preferred.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
