Job summary

Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) seeks a Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority to ensure safe, reliable operation of assigned systems in support of mission deliverables. You will coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Design Authority, and Configuration Management to uphold configuration controls and codes.

Responsibilities include maintaining system availability, managing configuration, developing health strategies with Owners and Reliability Engineering, and ensuring up-to-date

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree required; ABET accreditation or equivalent.
  • Minimum GPA requirements: 3.0/4.0 for Bachelor, 3.3 for Master, 3.5 for PhD.
  • DOE O 426.2A experience or equivalent; US citizenship and security clearance.
  • Ability to navigate DoE regulatory requirements and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority for assigned systems.
  • Maintain configuration management and ensure compliance with site standards.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and design authority on system changes.
  • Develop equipment health strategies with Owners and Reliability Engineering.
  • Ensure technical documents (SDDs, drawings, procedures) are current.
  • Interface with projects for new equipment installations and upgrades.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability.

Job description

What You’ll Do

As a Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority for assigned systems, you will work closely with operations and maintenance to ensure assigned equipment and systems operate safely and reliably to meet Mission deliverables. You will work with the Design Authority Representative and the Configuration Management organization to maintain configuration control and compliance to site standards, applicable codes and DOE orders.

Responsibilities includebut are not limited to:

  • Maintain system availability to meet mission deliverables as the Technical Point of Contact with Equipment Owner and skilled labor.
  • Maintain the Configuration Management program for your assigned equipment.
  • Develop long term equipment health strategies with Equipment Owner and Reliability Engineering.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the facility’s operation and the existing condition of the assigned system.
  • Ensuring documents related to the system are complete, accurate, and up-to-date, including SDDs, technical drawings, diagrams, and procedures for surveillance, testing, and maintenance.
  • Involvement in the design, review, and approval of changes affecting/impacting system design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Interface with Projects for new equipment installations and similar projects.
  • Continuously evaluating systems for improvement opportunities.

  • Adapting quickly to changing field conditions and/or plant wide priorities.

  • Broad based understanding of operation and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or computer equipment in a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND. OR MS in Engineering/Physical science. OR PhD in Engineering/Physical science.
  • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
    • 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
    • 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
    • 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.(Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Typical experience could range from two to fifteen plus years.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with engineering design criteria and standards.
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • The ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components.
  • Able to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
