Amazon Web Services, Inc. in Chicago, IL, is seeking a System Development Engineer II to join our platform operations team.
You will build tools to automate fleet processes, respond to large-scale events, diagnose critical failures, and mentor engineers while providing daytime support for software development teams. You will collaborate with software teams to support infrastructure, perform SQL queries, and help design scalable automation solutions across Windows, Linux, and Unix environments.

Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Salary range: $129,200 – $174,800 per year
Build tools that automate and streamline processes to make fleet operations more efficient. Respond to large‑scale events involving these fleets. Diagnose and fix critical software and system failures. Serve as a mentor and resource to other engineers and assist in training new engineers. Provide first‑line daytime support for operational tickets for all software‑development teams within the organization. Propose, drive, and implement technical solutions for automation, efficiency, and scalability. Partner with the software‑development teams to support corporate infrastructure systems and perform database queries (SQL) using Windows, Linux, or Unix‑based operating systems and SQL Server databases. Provide support and technical consultation to Amazon internal customers.
The base salary range for this position is $129,200 – $174,800 per year, which may vary based on experience, location, and job‑related knowledge and skills.
