Job summary

Independent Software, Inc. seeks a System Administrator, Level 1 to provide hands-on support for mission-critical IT systems, ensuring secure, reliable operations and smooth user access.

You will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain infrastructure across servers, storage, networks, and endpoints. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical field, five years of system admin experience (or more), DoD 8570.01-M IAT II certification, and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of System Administrator experience on programs of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Five (5) additional years of System Administrator experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • DoD 8570.01-M compliant with Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II.
  • Active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph; contract award contingent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with system configuration, patching, and updates.

  • Maintain system documentation and follow established procedures; optimize performance and resource utilization.

What You Will Do

As a System Administrator, Level 1 at Independent Software, you will provide hands‑on support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems supporting mission‑critical operations. You will assist in managing system infrastructure and ensuring systems are operating efficiently, securely, and reliably. You will support day‑to‑day IT operations, including monitoring systems, resolving technical issues, and assisting users with system access and functionality. This role is ideal for someone with foundational system administration experience looking to grow in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems
  • Monitor system performance and assist with problem identification and resolution
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support for IT‑related issues
  • Assist users with accessing and utilizing IT systems and applications

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience supporting IT systems in a system administration or help desk environment
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems

  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure components (servers, networks, storage)
  • Ability to support users and communicate technical issues clearly
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of System Administrator experience on programs of similar scope, type, and complexity
Or
  • Five (5) additional years of System Administrator experience may be substituted for a degree
Certifications
  • DoD 8570.01-M compliant with Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II
Clearance Requirement
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
