Job summary

Intertek is seeking a System Administrator in Rockville, MD to join the Connected World team. You will oversee, install, configure, and troubleshoot the infrastructure for cybersecurity testing and growth.

The base salary ranges from $75,000 to $90,000, with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) matching, generous PTO, and tuition reimbursement. Minimum qualifications include an Associate's in IT (Bachelor's preferred), 2+ years of network

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years computer network maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server products.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Rocky Linux, Red Hat, or CentOS).
  • Knowledge of networking topologies and network wiring systems.
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPN, and routers.
  • Certified Network Engineer or other technical certification such as CCNA or MCSE preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco based equipment a plus.
  • Experience with VMware a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless devices, virtualization servers).
  • Work with devices from a wide range of vendors.
  • Engage with vendors when troubleshooting client devices.
  • Monitor and resolve network and device issues to minimize downtime.
  • Provide routine support for Windows 11 and virtualization servers.
  • Maintain inventory of client/internal devices, IPs, and access control.
  • Write effective technical documentation as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of current technology.

What are we looking for?

The System Administrator is responsible to oversee, maintain, and plan the future growth of the infrastructure as well as receive, install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain customer devices that are sent in for cybersecurity testing.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:
  • Install and configure network devices (i.e., switches, routers, firewalls, wireless network devices, virtualization servers, etc.)
  • Work with devices from a wide range of vendors
  • Engage with vendors when troubleshooting client devices
  • Monitor, identify, and resolve network and device issues quickly to minimize downtime
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements, upgrades, and repairs
  • Communicate and collaborate with co-workers and management to ensure infrastructure can meet business demands
  • Provide routine support for in-house and remote computer systems using Windows 11 and virtualization servers
  • Maintain working database or inventory of client and internal devices, IPs, and access control
  • Work with internal customers to provide system solutions
  • Write effective technical documentation as assigned
  • Keep abreast of current technology
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Information Technology, or the equivalent in terms of education, experience and training. Bachelors degree preferred

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
  • CCNA certification, Network+ certification, familiarity with wireless technology and networks, industry certifications such as Security+, MCSE, Scripting experience
