Job summary

The Stoner Electric Group seeks an experienced System Administrator to design, administer, and improve IT infrastructure across office and field operations. You will influence business operations, risk posture, and continuity by ensuring secure, scalable environments.

This role acts as a technical advisor translating needs into practical solutions. Responsibilities include managing LAN/WAN, servers, AD/DHCP/DNS, VPNs, firewalls, and end-user devices, with emphasis on reliability and security.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a System Administrator or similar role or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of enterprise-level networking experience.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, operating systems, hardware, security best practices, and business continuity.
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, support, monitor, secure, and maintain LANs, WANs, network segments, and ISP connectivity across offices and jobsites.
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain servers, cloud services, Windows Server operating systems, business applications, security tools, and enterprise hardware.
  • Administer, monitor and maintain, Microsoft Server/Client system network services including AD/DHCP/DNS/GPO.
  • Design, deploy, and support network infrastructure including file servers, VPN gateways, firewalls, and network services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while maintaining system integrity, security, and uptime.
  • Establish and enforce system standards, policies, and best practices for lifecycle management and reliability.

Position Summary

The System Administrator is responsible for the design, administration, and continuous improvement of IT infrastructure across office and field operations. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and discretion, directly influencing business operations, risk posture, and operational continuity by ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable technology environments. The role serves as a technical advisor to internal stakeholders and leadership, translating business needs into infrastructure and systems solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Manage, support, monitor, secure, and maintain LANs, WANs, network segments, and ISP connectivity across offices and jobsites.
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain servers, cloud services, Windows Server operating systems, business applications, security tools, and enterprise hardware.
  • Administer, monitor and maintain, Microsoft Server/Client system network services including AD/DHCP/DNS/GPO.
  • Design, deploy, and support network infrastructure including file servers, VPN gateways, firewalls, and network services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while maintaining system integrity, security, and uptime.
  • Administer desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, phones, and related peripherals.
  • Establish and enforce system standards, policies, and best practices for lifecycle management and reliability to support organizational objectives
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, vendors, and solutions based on business needs, scalability, cost, and risk
  • Assess infrastructure-related risks and determine appropriate mitigation strategies with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate with IT teammates and internal stakeholders on projects and system improvements.
  • Take ownership and accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Contribute to foundational project management, documentation, and end-user training.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
  • 5+ years of experience in a System Administrator or similar role, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of enterprise-level networking experience.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, operating systems, hardware, security best practices, and business continuity.
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and working knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, WatchGuard, and Nutanix AHV.
  • Experience with additional scripting or programming languages to support automation and systems integration.
  • Experience with managing enterprise backbone network infrastructure including Cisco IOS or Dell OS10 switching.
  • Experience with Cloud based identity management solutions, EDR, SEIM, and SOAR.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal health or safety hazards. Noise level and temperature is moderate. Minimal lifting or climbing. This position is expected to be fully in-person, onsite, with some travel not limited to, other offices, work sites and local business errands. Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, scanners and phones.

Communication Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as operations manuals and instructions. Ability to write routine correspondence such as letters and memos. Ability to conduct face-to-face and telephone communication. Communicate clearly and effectively with project managers, team members, and stakeholders to support project execution.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction. Constructive thinking and alternative short- to long-term solutions must be considered. Action plans must be developed and implemented. Capacity to identify issues, propose solutions, and escalRez matters as needed. Accurate documentation, record-keeping, and thorough review of project materials. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contribute to project success.
