Job summary

Forbes Technical Consulting in Itasca, IL is seeking an IT Systems Administrator contractor for a 24+ month engagement with hybrid onsite work (4 days/week). Travel 20-25% is required.

The role emphasizes building and managing server environments, AD, backups, automation, and cross-team collaboration. Required is a BA/BS or comparable experience; VMware, Windows Server, SAN, PowerShell, and Azure/SQL/Lin​ux experience are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Experience configuring, installing and administering VMware.
• Proficient with Windows Server 2008–2022.
• Experience with storage and SAN technologies.
• Basic PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with Linux, Exchange, SQL, and Azure is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or four years related experience, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Builds, installs, and manages physical and virtual server environments.
• Maintain AD, certificate services, IIS, and related technologies.
• Remediate vulnerabilities; monitor backups; test recovery plans.
• Install and configure applications; ensure data availability.
• Create dashboards, reports, and alerts with system monitoring software.
• Communicate with customers and team members; collaborate on projects.
• Review and resolve server and networking issues; automate tasks.
• Escalate issues; pursue automation to improve processes.
• Assist with intradepartmental projects; perform other duties.

Job description

Location: Itasca, IL (hybrid 4 days a week onsite)

Type: 24+ month contract

Domestic and International Travel required: 20-25%

Responsibilities:

• Builds, installs, and manages physical and virtual server environments.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Server OS and its components including Active Directory, certificate services, IIS, and other related technologies.
• Remediates vulnerabilities in the environment.
• Installs and configures applications.
• Ensures data availability by monitoring backups and testing recovery plans.
• Utilize system monitoring software to build dashboards, reports, and alerts.
• Consistently communicate with customers and team members
• Review and resolve server and networking issues.
• Automate redundant tasks and improve processes.
• Escalate issues when necessary.
• Collaborate with other IT professionals on intradepartmental projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

• Solid Experience with configuration, installation, and administration of VMWare.
• In-depth working experience in Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2022.
• Experience with data storage and SAN technologies.
• Basic PowerShell scripting.
• Linux, Exchange, SQL, and Azure experience are a plus.
