Ascend Brooklyn High School seeks a High School Algebra 1 Teacher to deliver rigorous, Regents-aligned instruction grounded in scientific reasoning, quantitative precision, and laboratory inquiry.

Brooklyn Ascend High School is a K-12 public charter network focused on rigorous academics, discipline, and student outcomes. This is a full-time, in-person role based in Brooklyn, NY.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
• Valid New York State certification in Mathematics (Grades 7–12) or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Demonstrated content expertise in algebra, mathematical reasoning, and proof.

Responsibilities

• Teach Algebra 1 (Grade 9) aligned to New York State Learning Standards and Regents expectations.
• Design and deliver engaging lessons that cultivate conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
• Develop scholars' ability to construct formal proofs, justify mathematical thinking with evidence, and communicate complex ideas using precise mathematical language.
• Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage exploration, discourse, and multiple solution pathways.
• Differentiate instruction to ensure all scholars access rigorous grade-level content while accelerating growth.
• Build strong connections between algebra, geometry, trigonometry, engineering, architecture, and other STEM disciplines.
• Prepare scholars for successful completion of the New York State Algebra 1 Regents Examination.
• Lead students through the Architecture & Design Exhibition, where scholars apply algebraic principles to design and model authentic spaces or structures.
• Support students in producing technical drawings, mathematical models, and evidence-based design rationales that demonstrate mastery of algebraic concepts.
• Ensure culminating projects reflect both mathematical rigor and real-world application.
• Participate in weekly STEM data meetings to analyze scholar work, assessment results, and instructional effectiveness.
• Use formative, interim, and Regents-aligned assessment data to adjust instruction and accelerate scholar achievement.
• Engage fully in instructional coaching, observation cycles, and professional learning.
• Implement feedback with urgency and continuously refine instructional practice.
• Collaborate with STEM colleagues to ensure vertical alignment and coherence across the mathematics sequence.
• Establish a classroom culture grounded in intellectual curiosity, perseverance, collaboration, and academic excellence.
• Maintain consistent, structured classroom routines aligned to school-wide expectations.
• Partner with the Dean of Culture & Community and student support teams to promote scholar success.
• Serve as an advisor, fostering strong relationships that support students' academic, personal, and post-secondary development.

Compensation
