  • Train and supervise custodial crew; enforce policies and procedures.
  • Respond to maintenance requests, document needs, and coordinate with the Portfolio Manager.

This role involves ensuring that all physical spaces are maintained to be safe, clean and operational by coordinating daily facility operations, handling routine maintenance, and supervising repairs.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED from a GaDoe approved and accredited institution
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED from a GaDoe approved and accredited institution
  • Previous experience in a custodial or maintenance position, in a lead or supervisory role.
Preferred
  • Associates degree or technical credential in business, operations, maintenance trades, or related field.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Required
  • Ability to use a lift and have certification within 6 months of start date.
  • Mold Awareness Training and Certification within 6 months of start date.
  • Biohazard Clean-up Certification within 6 months of start date

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the working methods and procedures used in cleaning and basic maintenance of buildings
  • Knowledge of the qualities and uses of custodial supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of care and cleaning of various types of heating and ventilation equipment
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations applicable to schools and related buildings
  • Ability to plan and organize the work of self and others involved in the custodial care of buildings
  • Ability to assign, train, and coordinate the work of the custodial crew
  • Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions and directions, and full knowledge and usage of the Computer Maintenance Management System.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the school by monitoring and performing all custodial activities.
  • Keeps the assigned work area clean by dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, buffing scrubbing and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning carpets, collecting and disposing of trash and debris from building and grounds, and other related activities.
  • Schedules the work of other custodial staff; assists in selection of staff and performance evaluations.
  • Uses appropriate equipment to clean carpets and strip, scrub, buff, and wax floors. Also, uses appropriate landscaping & lawn care equipment to maintain the school grounds.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, & materials and performs all cleaning activities necessary to keep the building clean and safe.
  • Mows grass and trims hedges.
  • Operates and performs minor service on the heating and cooling system.
  • Assist in securing school building by locking doors and windows and turning on the security alarm. Also, open the school building.
  • Checks fire extinguishers and sends out for service when necessary.
  • Performs minor repairs and basic building maintenance.
  • Orders cleaning supplies.
  • Exterior painting and small paint projects.
  • Reports necessary repairs and safety concerns to the manager.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students and staff.

Incumbents will be considered 'at will' and appropriate pay will be determined based on the assigned pay grade and allowable experience.

Work Environment

Employees in this classification typically work throughout various areas of the school facility, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and outdoor grounds. There is also frequent use of radios, telephones, and basic electronic devices to communicate and coordinate with staff. The role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, stretching, and climbing to complete custodial and maintenance tasks. There are some physical and sensory demands, and the position does require consistent attention to safety and operational procedures.

EXCEPTIONAL PHYSICAL OR SENSORY DEMANDS
  • Occasional heavy lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Occasional lifting or pulling of equipment and supplies is necessary,

  • Regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • The work environment may involve exposure to dust, odors, and varying temperatures.
  • While some tasks permit control over rest periods, others require responding promptly to immediate custodial
  • Pushes and pulls brooms, vacuums, buffers, scrubbers, cleaning carts; must bend, stoop, and crawl.
  • Operate lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and hedge trimmers, etc.
