Job summary

YMCA of Greater Dayton is seeking a Swim Team Strength & Conditioning Coach in Huber Heights, OH for part-time, non-exempt work. The role assists in developing dryland programs for all swim team practice groups and adheres to YMCA guidelines for competitive coaching and swimming.

Responsibilities include creating personalized dryland programs, providing feedback, enforcing safety, recording swimmer progress, and supporting Head Coach with program development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of six months or more of related fitness experience and a high level of interest in the fitness field required.
  • Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and a current Lifeguard certification is recommended but not required.
  • Must possess quality knowledge of competitive swimming organizations, strokes, starts, turns, and other related skills.
  • Attends additional swim team dryland trainings through USA Swimming or the American Swim Coaches Association for dryland programming as necessary.

  • Provides positive and regular feedback to participants.
  • Directs questions to supervisor when needed.
  • Directs participants to other YMCA classes, programs, and activities.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
  • Trains participants in a demonstrative and professional manner.
  • Watches and corrects participants when exercising unsafely.
  • Educates members on appropriate attire for exercising.
  • Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support.
  • Exemplifies a healthy lifestyle.
  • Inspects equipment for safety hazards or wear.
  • Communicates concerns to supervisor as needed.
  • Works with senior practice groups to monitor safe techniques and promote a safe environment.
  • Assists Head Coach and Lead Group Swim Team Coaches in development of dryland programs for all practice groups.
  • Builds effective dryland programs.
  • Enforces team policies such as attendance and behavior.
  • Keeps control of swimmer behavior and informs parents if necessary.
  • Adheres to and is on time to all scheduled practices.
  • Keeps accurate records on each swimmer’s evaluation at start and end of session.
  • Communicates effectively to children and parents/guardians.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Provides an emotionally secure environment for participants.
  • Has the aptitude and attitude for coaching all ages and levels of physical ability.
  • Gives excellent coaching instructions.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting in development of dryland programs for all swim team practice groups.   • Communicates effectively to both children and their parents/ guardians.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Provides an emotionally secure environment for participants.

  • Gives excellent coaching instructions.
