Job summary

YMCA of the Chippewa Valley is seeking a Swim Team Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in delivering a high-quality, developmentally sound program. You will assist with coaching practices, scheduling, swimmer progression, and family engagement while upholding YMCA values.

You will help manage meet operations, apparel, and communications, ensuring safety and positive experiences for swimmers and families. Collaboration with marketing and aquatics staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous swim coaching experience.
  • Current or ability to obtain required certifications (Lifeguard or In-Water Safety Training, CPR Pro, Online Coaches Certification, SafeSport).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to youth safety and development.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of coaching certifications.

About the Role

The Swim Team Assistant Coach supports the Head Swim Team Director/Head Coach in delivering a high-quality, engaging, and developmentally sound swim team program. This role assists with coaching, program administration, athlete engagement, communication, marketing, meet operations, and family support. The Assistant Coach helps ensure swimmer safety, athlete progression, operational organization, and positive experiences for swimmers and families while promoting YMCA values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Report directly to the Head Swim Team Director/Head Coach and support overall team operations.

Assist in coaching swim practices and private lessons, emphasizing technique, safety, skill development, and swimmer engagement.

Help develop and organize team groups, practice schedules, and seasonal team schedules.

Assist in developing and implementing swimmer level progression within the swim team.

Track and coach private lessons, including scheduling and communication.

Help enter meet fees and other team-related fees throughout the year.

Assist with Fairfax Meet management, including meet operations and Fairfax Meet fundraising initiatives.

Help design, order, and distribute team apparel and spirit wear.

Order, organize, and distribute awards for swim meets.

Work collaboratively with marketing staff to create social media posts that promote the swim team and support team growth.

Assist with website management, including swim team family accounts, practice schedules, and team information.

Help plan, attend, and facilitate team meetings including coaches’ meetings, parent meetings, and new family orientations.

Assist with updating, reviewing, and distributing team and parent handbooks.

Help develop and implement creative strategies to keep swimmers engaged during practices and meets.

Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive communication with swimmers, parents, coaches, and YMCA staff.

TECHNOLOGY AND SYSTEMS PROFICIENCY

Ability to use swim team management software and website platforms for schedules, accounts, and communication.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, email).

Ability to track certifications, fees, and attendance using electronic systems.

Familiarity with social media platforms for promotional purposes.
