Job summary

Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is seeking an Aquatics Program Specialist to lead and support the recreational aquatics program across district locations. You will recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate staff while serving as site supervisor when required.

The role involves instructing lifeguard certification classes, guiding program improvements, and maintaining strong communication with parents, swimmers, and staff. Flexibility for evenings/weekends is needed.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in aquatics or recreation.
  • Experience with learn-to-swim programs preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling and evaluating aquatic staff.
  • Serve as site supervisor at program locations as needed.
  • Instruct Lifeguard Certification and Recertification classes for staff.
  • Provide leadership to improve recreational aquatics programs.

ABOUT PARKWAY-ROCKWOOD COMMUNITY ED:

Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed is a partnership of the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts that provides high-quality programs that enhance the quality of life for residents.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Community Ed team, the Aquatics Program Specialist provides leadership and support for the recreational aquatics program to help further the mission of Community Ed in the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Under direction of supervisor, assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling and evaluating of assigned recreational aquatics staff to ensure adherence to accepted quality program standards as well as department philosophies and guidelines
  • Serve as site supervisor at program locations when needed
  • Instruct American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Recertification classes for staff as needed
  • Assist in providing effective leadership for recreational aquatics programs by giving direction and leading continuous improvement efforts
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communications with staff members, patrons and swimmers of all ages
  • Responsible for documenting essential program information, maintaining databases, processing registrations, scheduling programs and other moderately complex tasks as directed
  • Inform supervisor of pool maintenance or safety issues related to the facility
  • Promote programs by interacting and communicating positively with parents and swimmers
  • Serve as a member of the Community Ed Management Team
  • Serve as member of assigned department-wide committee as determined by supervisor
  • Collaborate with Inclusion Specialist to ensure participant success in programs by conveying a thorough understanding of program parameters and incorporating training for staff as needed
  • Collaborate with marketing team by conveying a thorough understanding of programs and help generate ideas on marketing plan
  • Collaborate with operations team on process and procedures related to tasks to support programming
  • Represent Community Ed at programs, in the districts, and at community events as needed
  • Attend Community Ed department meetings and events as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to access and work in a variety of locations within and outside Parkway and Rockwood districts, and work non-traditional hours which may include nights and weekends
  • Ability to bend, twist, lift and manipulate equipment, supplies and mail
  • Ability to establish and execute priorities with minimum direction or instruction
  • Ability to judge when situations and/or information should be called to the attention of supervisor
  • Ability to think strategically, take initiative and administer effective leadership in developing and implementing a quality swim program for participants
  • Ability to train and lead assigned staff to effectively meet program needs
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Community Ed programs and services
  • Must work well as part of a team and individually
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Work in a cross functional, team-based environment and collaborate with others in setting goals and problem solving
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Previous supervisory experience in an aquatics or recreation setting; previous experience with a learn-to-swim program preferred
  • American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training, CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to attain required
  • Prior experience with supervision of staff preferred
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspaces and Microsoft Office software

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Within assigned pools indoors and outdoors within and outside Parkway and Rockwood School District locations, which may include during inclement weather
  • While performing duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reach

Salary: $19 Per Hour
