The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks part-time Swimming Instructors for Daley College to develop and implement engaging learn-to-swim activities tailored to each participant’s abilities.

Instructors provide safe, patient coaching, assess progress, and adapt methods to diverse ages and skill levels, promoting confidence and enjoyment in the water. Evening/weekend shifts are expected during the session.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required.
• Valid CPR card required.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
• Experience with lifesaving equipment; basic first aid kit, CPR mask, rescue buoy or rescue tube.
• Effective verbal and written communication plus multilingual skills a plus.
• Flexibility to work outside normal college hours, weekends or holidays.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and stay calm in emergencies.
• Ability to work in a team with flexible hours for college events.
• Promotes a positive image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.

SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR – PART-TIME

RICHARD J. DALEY COLLEGE

The Aquatics Department of Daley College, one of the City Collegesof Chicago, seeks part-time Swimming Instructors to provide avariety of learn to swim lessons. This position serves to inspire,motivate, and empower individuals of various ages and skill levelsto learn to swim in an environment that is safe and comfortable forlearners.

Daley College’s Aquatics Department extends this excitingopportunity for an engaging, energetic, and patient instructor toteach swimming lessons by developing and implementing appropriateand engaging activities that consider the unique abilities of eachparticipant.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops weekly lessons that teach participants to swim safely,allowing students to improve their swimming abilities, skills, andknowledge.
• Delivers instruction using different methods to meet students’abilities and needs.
• Assesses student learning to ensure placement at appropriate andsafe swim level.
• Inspires, motivates, and empowers participants in their swimmingpursuits.
• Ensures the safety of patrons participating in swimmingactivities.
• Fills out incident report forms after accidents or injuries,proactively collecting witness names and numbers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificationrequired.
• Valid CPR card required.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
• Prior experience with and proficient use of lifesaving equipment;basic first aid kit, CPR mask, rescue buoy or rescue tube.
• Delivery of effective verbal and written communications and takesresponsibility for understanding others, multilingual skills aplus.
• Flexibility to work outside normal college business hours,weekends, or holidays.
• Able to exercise independent judgment and respond calmly tohigh-pressure emergency situations.
• Ability to work in a team environment with flexible work hours asneeded for scheduled college events.
• Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as CityColleges of Chicago representative.

WORK SCHEDULE (Tentative)

Must be willing to work weekday afternoons and evenings as neededthroughout the session. Saturday morning and afternoon shifts maybe scheduled as well. Most schedules are set for 12-16 weeks foreach session.
