Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta seeks a Swim Instructor at the Alpharetta location to provide leadership and instruction in swim classes. This role influences the community by supporting participants in developing their swimming skills and fostering a positive, inclusive environment.

Ideal candidates will have a YMCA Swim Instructor certification, at least 16 years of age, and a passion for youth development. The position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive environment dedicated to community service and wellness.

Nature And Scope

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organize and put away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 16 years of age
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required
• Intro to the Y’s Cause and Culture, Living our Cause & I Hear you. Service with Care e-learning within first 30 days
