Job summary

YMCA of the East Valley is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor in Redlands, CA to deliver high-quality swim lessons and engage members and families. Under the Program Director, you will promote the YMCA mission, ensure safety, and maintain accurate records while supporting program goals and community involvement.

You will instruct lessons, follow YMCA policies, participate in staff trainings, and work to build authentic connections with students and parents.

Qualifications

• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.
• Must be able to demonstrate swimming instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Previous teaching experience preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

The YMCA of the East Valley is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Swim Instructor is responsible for supporting YMCA operations through effective delivery of programs, services, and member engagement. This position contributes to the achievement of Association goals by promoting the YMCA mission, values, and strategic priorities while providing high-quality service to members, participants, staff, and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Core Responsibilities

• Perform duties in alignment with YMCA mission, policies, procedures, and operational standards.
• Deliver high-quality customer/member service to participants, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Support departmental and Association goals through effective communication, teamwork, and accountability.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required professional development activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Support risk management and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support operational needs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Responsibilities

• Instruct group or individual swim lessons accordance with the Y guidelines, having prepared lessons plans accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aids assigned.Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Operating office equipment and technology.
• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in indoor and/or outdoor environments.
• Ability to travel between branch locations, if applicable.
