Job summary

Merrimack Valley YMCA seeks a Swim Instructor to deliver safe, motivational aquatic instruction under the Aquatics Director. You will ensure constant supervision, enforce pool rules, and maintain class records for progress and attendance.

The role requires knowledge of aquatics, the ability to teach others to swim, and willingness to participate in trainings and staff meetings. Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required; WSI/YSL is a plus.

Qualifications

• CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification required.
• AED and First Aid certification required.
• WSI (American Red Cross) or YMCA YSL certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Never take eyes off the class and ensure supervision at all times.
• Provide safe, knowledgeable aquatic instruction using YMCA guidelines.
• Maintain records of attendance and skill progress for participants.

Job description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor, under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable instruction to members & program participants. The instructor is responsible for the safety and proper instruction of class participants.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Never take your eyes off your class. Never leave your children unattended. Safety is your highest priority.Provide safe, competent aquatic instruction using nationally recognized guidelines established by the YMCA of the USA.Be alert/attentive so as to prevent accidents. Respond quickly, intelligently, and decisively and in accordance with YMCA established emergency and accident management procedures.Teach with encouragement and positive reinforcement.Must have considerable ability as a swimmer.Maintain constant surveillance of class participants to ensure a safe and positive environment.Enforce all pool rules in a consistent, courteous and fair manner.
