Job Summary
The Swim Coach is responsible for supporting the development and training of the club’s swimming activities while also providing individual swimming lessons to members and guests. The role works closely with the aquatics team to ensure a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for members and guests, improving swimmers’ skills in a supportive environment that consistently exceeds expectations.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to the Director of Aquatics or the Fitness Director
- May report to the Manager of Aquatics in the absence of the Director of Aquatics
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Connect with members regularly and promote aquatic club activities.
- Provide towels and water service during members’ use of the aquatic facilities.
- Promote the facility, programs, and the club while maintaining professionalism, including wearing a club‑approved uniform and nametag.
- Assist in designing swim practices as outlined by the manager and maintain supervision of the group, monitoring development for swimmers.
- Attend swimming meets and warm‑up sessions as scheduled.
- Assist in setting up the pool for training sessions while ensuring the area remains accessible for non‑swimming team members.
- Oversee completion of daily assignments in designated areas to uphold club standards and align with the Star Service Focus expectations, including maintaining order, tidying the entry area, and ensuring the aquatics facilities are well‑stocked and arranged.
Additional Duties
- Assist others as needed and take on additional tasks as assigned by management.
- Follow all company, club, and department policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in interactions with members, colleagues, and staff.
- Follow safe working practices, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and encouraging others to do the same.
- Take initiative in personal and professional growth and maintain any required certifications relevant to your role.
- Address and resolve challenges using available resources, working with regional and corporate teams to support club operations.
- Attend daily briefings and actively engage in required activities to stay informed and contribute to the team’s success.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience coaching swimmers of various ages and skill levels.
- Must be ASCA or USA Swimming certified.
- Certification in CPR, first aid, and AED within the last 6 months.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, members, and guests.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent swimming, sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
- Occasional exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes, or gases.
- Squatting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, twisting, and bending.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
- Telling, hearing, and seeing.
Primary Tools/Equipment
- Swim cap, goggles, fins, noodles, whistles, etc.
- First aid kits and safety signage.
- Lifeguard equipment.
- Smartphones or tablets.
- Office supplies.
Work Schedule
- Adherence to attendance requirements as outlined in the weekly schedule.
- Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet position deadlines.
- Availability to work on weekends and/or holidays as required.
