Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct participants according to YMCA aquatics program standards.
  • Set up and run all practices and assist during team tryouts.
  • Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.

The Flushing YMCA is seeking a qualified Swim Coach who will maintain safe conditions in and around the swim area at the Flushing YMCA. The Swim Coach will assist the Head Swim Coach in developing and implementing a successful plan for the Development Swim Team Group and promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA Aquatics policies and procedures. **Key Responsibilities:*** Must be Instructor/Coach Ready: uniform, lesson plans, maintain records (attendance, track progress, team entries, emergency contact, and complete swim meet/end of session reports).* Instruct participants according to YMCA aquatics program standards: setting specific goals for team participants, effective class organization, and positive relationships with participants.* Set up and run all practices and assist during “team tryouts”.* Ensure instructional equipment remains in good condition; have all equipment ready prior to classes and put them away after.* Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.* Promote other aquatics programs and be knowledgeable about the pool schedule and programs.* Maintain positive relationships with class/team participants, parents/guardians, non-class/team members, and staff.* Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.* Follow the directions of the YMCA Aquatic Supervisors in accordance with YMCA aquatic standards.* Follow all YMCA of Greater New York Code of Conduct and Aquatics-specific policies.* Attend mandatory in-service training on a monthly basis, if teaching, or on a quarterly basis if only coaching.* Work with the Head Swim Coach to attain Coach Certification and learn Swim Team systems (computer/web page/ etc.).* Must attain the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire if you do not hold a coach certification or teach other than the swim team.* Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.* Responsible for recertification before expiration.* Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.### Employee BenefitsWe believe strong communities start with strong, healthy and connected staff.
