This position will plan, execute, and document the integration, verification, and test of Linux-based submarine combat system software and supporting hardware in shore-based laboratories, development environments, and platform-representative configurations.

The ideal candidate combines hands‑on combat system experience with a Computer Science and/or Systems Engineering background and can translate system requirements and architecture into disciplined integration and test activities. Prior service as a U.S. Navy Fire Control Technician (Submarines) is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute integration and test activities for SWFTS combat system software, hardware, and tactical applications.
  • Integrate software releases, equipment, network services, and system configurations within shore-based laboratories and platform-representative test environments.
  • Develop and maintain integration and test strategies, test plans, procedures, scripts, entry and exit criteria, schedules, and test reports.
  • Configure, operate, and troubleshoot Linux-based combat system environments, including system services, applications, accounts, permissions, processes, and log data.
  • Verify interfaces, services, and data exchanges across federated tactical subsystems and confirm compliance with approved system requirements and interface definitions.
  • Conduct functional, regression, interoperability, performance, and end‑to‑end testing; capture objective evidence and document results.
  • Maintain requirements traceability and support verification planning, test readiness reviews, design reviews, and release readiness assessments.
  • Investigate integration and test failures, analyze logs and system behavior, isolate root causes, document defects, and coordinate corrective actions and retesting.
  • Manage and verify hardware, software, firmware, and documentation baselines in coordination with configuration management and software development teams.
  • Support system architecture and design activities by evaluating component boundaries, interfaces, dependencies, performance constraints, and integration impacts.
  • Collaborate with government sponsors, NUWC divisions, ISEA representatives, software developers, system architects, test personnel, and defense contractors.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirements artifacts, interface control documents, test procedures, discrepancy reports, technical briefings, and release artifacts.
  • Serve as a technical contributor during engineering working groups, test readiness reviews, design reviews, technical exchanges, and stakeholder briefings for the SWFTS team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • 4-7 years of experience supporting systems engineering, software engineering, combat systems, integration and test, or DoD/Navy programs.
  • Hands‑on combat system experience is required, including integration, operation, test, troubleshooting, sustainment, or modernization of complex tactical systems.
  • Experience supporting Navy submarine combat systems, SWFTS, BYG-1, or comparable tactical command-and-control environments.
  • Proficiency working in Linux environments and troubleshooting applications, services, processes, permissions, network connectivity, and system logs.
  • Working knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, interface definition, integration planning, verification, validation, and configuration control.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans, procedures, cases, scripts, and reports, with clear traceability to system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of scripting or development languages such as Python, BASH, Java, or C++ for test automation, data collection, or troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with networked and distributed systems, common network protocols, system interfaces, and hardware/software integration.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, interpret test results, and communicate actionable findings to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Experience with software version control, defect tracking, release management, and configuration-controlled development or test environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional engineering and test teams.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or higher at the time of hire.
