Job summary

CivilGrid in Boston, MA is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to join a small, fast-growing team. You will build end-to-end features with React, Node.js, and data pipelines, shaping a platform used by utilities and municipalities.

You’ll own components from database models to UI, tackle performance, and help monitor the system. We value autonomy, initiative, and clear communication as we scale our SaaS product with equity and flexible, remote-friendly options.

Qualifications

• 3+ years with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js.
• 1+ year of React experience.
• Startup-ready: autonomous, fast-moving, proactive.
• Experience with SaaS products.
• Postgres experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with geospatial tech (PostGIS, GeoJSON).
• Conduct code reviews and give constructive feedback.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Degree in CS, Civil Eng, or related field.

WHY THIS ROLE

As a small team, we all wear many hats and enjoy tackling new challenges. When it comes to tech, we're seeking experienced individuals who can efficiently identify problems and devise solutions. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will be a foundational team member with the opportunity to work on all aspects of the application and shape the technical future of CivilGrid. Joining at this stage, you will build core systems that will help us scale quickly, and benefit from tremendous upside as we grow.

This role will report to one of our Engineering Managers. It is a hybrid role with expectations that you are working from our Boston, MA office at least 2 days per week if hired.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design and build end-to-end features, covering everything from database models to user-facing components using React

• Tackle a variety of areas: web and mobile applications, mapping interfaces, data processing pipelines, algorithmic relevancy, and real-time collaboration tools

• Profile and tune performance across the entire stack to ensure efficient and responsive systems

• Implement and maintain analytics, health monitoring, alerts, and logging to maintain operational visibility and system reliability

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 3+ years of experience working with JavaScript or TypeScript, particularly with Node.js (or equivalent frameworks)

• 1+ years of experience working with React

• Start Up Ready: Autonomous, moves fast, takes initiative without being asked

• Experience working on a SaaS product

• Postgres experience is a plus

• Familiarity with geospatial frameworks (PostGIS, GeoJSON, map rendering libraries, etc.) is also a plus

• Conduct code reviews and offer constructive feedback to help grow the team’s technical capabilities

• Strong verbal and written communication, able to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively

• A degree in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field (B.S. or M.S.)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The base salary range for this role in Boston is $132,000 - $178,600.

Base salary is only one part of your total compensation package at CivilGrid, which also includes meaningful early-stage equity, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to shape a category-defining company. The base salary range listed above may encompass various levels and/or geographic locations; final offers are determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, level, and work location.
