Position Summary / Career Interest

Responsible for promoting and restoring patient’s health by collaborating with physicians and team members and providing physical and psychological support to patients and their families. Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist laboratory, nursing and X‑ray personnel. Exhibits the core values of Olathe Health System, Inc.: compassion, integrity and unity.

Responsibilities And Essential Job Functions
  • Schedule patients for testing procedures and assist receptionists with physician’s patient schedules. Escort patients to exam rooms, guide patient flow through lab, nursing or X‑ray departments, and prepare exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing. Monitor and maintain supplies to ensure proper functioning of work area. Oversee appointment bookings and prioritize based on patient medical situation.
  • Use various equipment for examination and treatment procedures. Maintain equipment operation through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and completing maintenance requests as needed. Measure and record vital signs, weights, allergies, current medications and other information for physicians.
  • Instruct patients in sample collection and testing. Label and store specimens properly, deliver tests, obtain results, and ensure lab reports, X‑ray and other information are in patient records. Arrange age‑specific patient testing and admissions, post test and examination results, and assist patients and families with medication, treatment or educational needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of managed‑care plan requirements and assist with referrals, pre‑certification requirements or laboratory reference testing. Schedule appointments and/or assist with referrals as needed.
  • Utilize computer skills to view schedule, assign appointments, search patient demographics and enter, order or retrieve patient results. Demonstrate adherence to regulatory agency standards and the use of OHSI and reference lab computer systems.
  • Apply nursing theory, good laboratory practices, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures, medication knowledge, patient education principles, and safety hazard awareness to deliver safe, patient‑centered care.
  • Provide general nursing care to clinic patients, administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards, assist physicians during treatment, maintain and clean exam rooms, and prepare necessary supplies.
  • Perform telephone advice nurse duties: answer calls, triage, document per protocol, bring critical messages to physicians, prioritize, and communicate next plan of care. Assist with prescription refills as per office protocol.
  • Observe, record patient condition and drug or treatment reactions; respond to and refer incoming calls; maintain and review patient records, charts and other pertinent information; document calls and triage forms neatly and orderly.
  • Participate fully as a member of the Patient‑Centered Medical Home Team.
  • Perform professional, clinical and/or technical competencies required for the assigned unit or department.

Required Education And Experience
