Opportunity

HDR is looking for a Southwest Florida Transportation Business Group Lead to help lead our Area Transportation Business Group focused specifically on Southwest Florida. As the Local Geographical Lead you will take responsibility for operations, client service, project delivery, business development, people management, and marketing support.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for operations including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
• Function as a Client and Project Manager by taking responsibility for client service and project delivery in addition to management responsibilities.
• Take administrative responsibility for the staff and technical service functions and lead and coordinate services with other business groups.
• Be directly involved in business development planning, proposals and interviews.
• Be directly involved with transportation clients in marketing, project production and related issues.
• See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through a proactive project management system.
• Implement, monitor and support company policy.
• Select, train, develop, manage and coach project delivery personnel.
• Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
• Work cooperatively with Area and Local Leaders in local and national marketing and production efforts.
• Collaborate with Area Transportation Business Group Market Sector Leaders and the Area Business Group Manager to bring the TBG vision to fruition in the local marketplace.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

• Control operational metrics for the Area Transportation Business Group, including net fees earned and profitability.
• Assist with staffing prioritization, recruitment, development, retention, and workload management.
• Collaborate with staff on client definition and engagement strategy within the Area.
• Coordinate internal resources to meet client needs and achieve goals.
• Assist in the annual strategic planning effort.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Monitor and communicate progress toward period and annual net fee booking goals, and adjust projections as needed to achieve targets.
• Expand HDR branding in the area and attend civic functions such as ACEC‑FL, FTBA, and other occasions to interact and maintain client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Professional Engineer in Florida, or the ability to gain reciprocity.
• Proven marketing and business development skills, with established contacts or relationships with transportation clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, demonstrated team‑building capabilities, and strong people‑leader experience with a diverse team.
• Good leadership and organizational skills with the ability to grow the local geography’s transportation team.
• Active engagement in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments effectively.
• Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
• 15+ years of industry experience, including management experience.
• Significant transportation experience.
• Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts, and hiring for an engineering consulting firm.
• Master’s degree.
• PMP certification.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Minimum 5 years of project‑management experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with MS Office and MS Project; Access experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership, business‑development, and strategic‑planning skills.
