Job Summary
SVS Vision Opticians will help customers choose the right eyeglasses, lenses, or contact lenses based on their prescription. Opticians work with a team of eye care professionals (optometrists) and primarily serve patients who have had an eye exam.
Position Summary
Provide excellent patient and customer service during the selection, ordering, and dispensing of eyewear. Complete pre‑screening activities before patient exams. Prepare work orders for the optical lab, process medical billing, and maintain frame inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer and patient service according to company and store standards.
- Analyze patient eyewear needs.
- Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to satisfy patient needs.
- Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color, ensuring frames coordinate with facial measurements and prescriptions.
- Order and dispense eyewear accurately and professionally.
- Assist patients with frame repairs and adjustments.
- Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses.
Business and Operational Standards
- Maintain complete knowledge of third‑party plans and claims.
- Explain promotions and special lens offerings to patients and customers.
- Balance accounts.
- Prepare work orders containing specific instructions for the optical lab.
- Process medical billing information.
- Ensure proper merchandising of frame inventory.
- Confirm appointments.
- Process transactions in the optical billing and point of sale systems.
- Upload supporting documents to EHR, including ID, insurance cards, and plan sheets.
- Organize and file patient and customer records.
Minimum Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements
- Maintain license as required by state.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Previous experience in an office and/or optical dispensing setting preferred.
- Ability to handle multiple customer interactions/phone calls at a time.
- Ability to work with patient eyewear needs including analyzing prescriptions, repairs and adjustments, and lifestyle dispensing.
