Job description

A financial institution is seeking an experienced SVP, Compliance Officer to provide leadership and oversight of its Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), OFAC Sanctions Compliance, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Financial Crimes Compliance programs.

This position is responsible for maintaining an effective compliance framework designed to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions, and other financial crime risks. The role serves as a key advisor to executive management on BSA/AML and sanctions-related matters while promoting a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities:
BSA/AML & OFAC Program Oversight
  • Lead the administration and ongoing enhancement of the institution's BSA/AML, OFAC, sanctions screening, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Customer Identification Program (CIP) frameworks.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update BSA/AML and sanctions-related policies, procedures, controls, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure the organization's compliance programs remain aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory developments, enforcement actions, and guidance impacting financial crimes compliance programs.
Transaction Monitoring & Investigations
  • Oversee transaction monitoring activities, alert reviews, investigations, and case management processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), and other regulatory filings as required.
  • Supervise quality assurance and quality control processes related to financial crime investigations and reporting.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of transaction monitoring systems and recommend enhancements to strengthen risk detection capabilities.
  • Oversee OFAC and sanctions screening processes, including watchlist filtering, escalation protocols, and disposition reviews.
  • Ensure effective implementation of KYC, CIP, CDD, and EDD requirements across customer onboarding and ongoing review processes.
  • Oversee risk-based customer assessment methodologies and higher-risk customer reviews.
  • Conduct and maintain enterprise BSA/AML and sanctions risk assessments.
  • Partner with business units to identify and mitigate financial crime risks associated with products, services, customers, and geographic exposure.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for BSA, AML, OFAC, sanctions, and financial crimes compliance matters.
  • Support regulatory examinations, independent audits, and internal reviews.
  • Prepare compliance reports and presentations for senior management, committees, and other governance forums.
  • Provide ongoing guidance regarding BSA/AML, sanctions, and regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders regarding compliance initiatives, findings, and emerging risks.
Training & Culture
  • Develop and deliver BSA/AML, OFAC, sanctions, and financial crimes compliance training programs.
  • Promote awareness of regulatory requirements and compliance responsibilities across the organization.
  • Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and ethical conduct.
Leadership
  • Lead, develop, and mentor compliance personnel.
  • Establish departmental priorities and oversee execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Manage performance, workload distribution, and professional development activities.
  • Participate in enterprise projects and other compliance-related initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and/or CAMS certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in BSA/AML, OFAC, financial crimes compliance, or related regulatory functions within a financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of BSA, AML, OFAC, KYC, CIP, CDD, EDD, SAR, CTR, transaction monitoring, and sanctions compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing compliance programs, risk assessments, investigations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Prior interaction with regulators, auditors, and senior management.
  • Proven leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
