Collectors Holdings, Inc. in Santa Ana, CA is seeking a Sustainment Engineer / Tooling Engineer II to maintain our fleet of injection mold tooling and support production continuity across our brands.

You will lead tooling integration, perform root-cause analysis with QA and Purchasing, and develop SOPs while collaborating with Quality, CI and Manufacturing. This onsite role requires five days in the office, with up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 2+ years in mechanical/manufacturing engineering roles.
• Direct experience with injection molded tooling and components.
• Preferred: ultrasonic welding processes; CAD review and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee sustainment and optimization of a high-volume, global injection mold tooling fleet.
• Lead design, fabrication, and qualification of replacement tooling for production continuity.
• Perform deep-dive root cause investigations for production bottlenecks and supplier quality deviations.
• Create and maintain SOPs for standardized processes across the sustainment lifecycle.
• Design internal workflows to streamline asset sustainment and enable efficient operations.
• Identify data-driven opportunities for product, equipment, and efficiency improvements.
• Act as a technical bridge between Quality, Purchasing, CI, and Manufacturing to meet targets.

We’re looking for a Sustainment Engineer / Tooling Engineer II to join our Operations Engineering team. As the Sustainment Engineer, you will be responsible for working with our molders to maintain our fleet of injection molding tool sets. You will support supplier quality to perform root cause analysis and drive corrective action and support operations internally by investigating production issues and implementing appropriate solutions. You will act as a technical subject matter expert for internal stakeholders supporting every brand under Collectors. You’ll report to the Manager of Mechanical Design Engineering and work onsite from our Santa Ana, CA office. Up to 10% of occasional travel to domestic and international vendors and Collectors locations. Onsite Requirement: This role requires you to be onsite in the office 5 days per week.

What You’ll Do:

• Asset Lifecycle Management: Oversee the sustainment and optimization of a high-volume, global fleet of injection mold tooling
• New Tooling Integration: Lead the technical support for the design, fabrication, and qualification of replacement tooling to ensure seamless production continuity
• Technical Problem Solving: Execute deep-dive root cause investigations for internal production bottlenecks and supplier quality deviations
• Standardization & Governance: Author and maintain comprehensive SOPs to ensure process standardization across the sustainment lifecycle
• Process Architecture: Design and implement robust internal workflows to streamline the sustainment of physical assets
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and pitch data-driven opportunities for product, equipment, and efficiency enhancements
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a technical bridge between Quality, Purchasing, CI, and Manufacturing to hit operational targets

Who You Are:

• Education: Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (Required)
• Professional Experience: 2 or more years of proven success in a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering role
• Technical Expertise: Direct experience with the design, maintenance, and material selection of injection molded components and tooling
• Preferred Skills: Hands-on experience with ultrasonic welding processes: Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD platforms for design review and troubleshooting. Background in plastic injection mold tool design is highly desirable
• Soft Skills: Analytical & Inquisitive: Naturally curious with a drive to master new systems and a habit of asking the 'why' behind the 'how' Communication: Strong verbal and technical writing skills, capable of translating complex issues into actionable plans Adaptable: A disciplined team player who thrives on feedback and remains focused in deadline-driven environments Meticulous: High attention to detail with an organized approach to managing multiple technical priorities

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $78,000 - $106,000. Actual compensation on this range varies based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including location, job level, experience, and skill set.
