Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• NC Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Two years of landscaping/grounds maintenance or related experience required.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Duke University's landscapes through turf care, trimming, edging, pruning, weeding, mulching, planting, and fertilizing.
• Apply herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizer, seed, bulbs, and plant materials per standards and safety guidelines.
• Calculate and prepare mixtures and application rates for landscape materials.
• Monitor landscape health, identify pests and diseases, and recommend corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems to support healthy landscape growth.
• Participate in training programs related to turf management, irrigation, and pest control.
• Assist with storm response and weather-related cleanup; may require extended hours during emergencies.
• Remove litter and debris to maintain safe outdoor spaces.
• Support seasonal landscape enhancement projects and continuous improvement of outdoor environments.
• Follow safety procedures when operating equipment and tools.
