Job summary

ZGF Architects is seeking a Sustainable Design Analyst in Washington, DC with 3+ years of experience to guide projects toward higher performance. You will collaborate with architecture teams, consultants, and clients to shape design strategies and manage LCAs, daylighting, and energy analyses.

Engage in certification efforts (LEED, WELL, LBC) and contribute to workflow improvements. The role emphasizes communication of findings through data-driven visuals and team training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Architecture, Engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office; experience in modeling, graphics, scripting is a plus.
  • Experience with sustainable standards (LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge; Passive House training/assets).
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams under tight schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Work with architecture teams, consultants, and clients to develop design strategies meeting sustainable goals.
  • Support delivery of projects across US and Canada with high building performance.
  • Lead project Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and optimize designs.
  • Train staff to utilize project analyses including LCAs and daylighting studies.
  • Summarize analyses through visual/data-rich graphics for clients and consultants.

Job description

ZGF is seeking a talented and professional Sustainable Design Analyst with 3+ years’ experience to join our team in Washington, DC to support and provide direction on projects within the firm.

As a Sustainable Design Analyst, you will….

  • Work with architecture teams, consultants, and clients to develop design strategies that meet the sustainable vision and project goals.
  • Support the delivery of projects based in US and Canada in their pursuit of higher building performance including complex multi-phased higher education, large transit, healthcare, civic and/or commercial development projects.
  • Support sustainability certification efforts for programs such as WELL, LEED and Living Building Challenge, and Zero Carbon certification.
  • Lead project Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and work collaboratively with others toward design optimization.
  • Perform other sustainable design analyses, as needed and within your experience and capabilities, including daylighting, solar shading, thermal comfort, energy, carbon intensity and material health.
  • Summarize and communicate analyses through visual and data-intensive graphics and assist teams in communicating results and recommendations to our clients and consultants.
  • Research innovative products and materials and assess for sustainability, health, and performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve workflows on tools focused on LCA, carbon intensity, and other analysis types.
  • Train design staff to utilize and complete project analyses, including LCAs, climate, daylight, and solar studies.
  • Contribute to general office-wide initiatives and marketing efforts around our project performance work.
  • Demonstrate motivation in seeking new responsibilities and challenges.
Qualifications:
  • Experience with sustainable standards; such as LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge and Passive House training and/or accreditation considered an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management, Environmental Design, Building Science or related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite. Experience in Revit, Rhino, Adobe Suite, and other modeling, graphic, and scripting considered an asset.
  • Creative problem solver with well-rounded analysis skills and the ability to work independently, with multi-disciplined teams, and balance multiple projects. Ability to work with short schedules and deadlines.
  • Proficient with OneClick LCA, Tally, EC3, and/or other LCA software.
  • Experience with Grasshopper for Rhino, Climate Studio, LightStanza, IES, or other sustainable performance building analysis software.
  • Ability to understand, produce and convey metrics related to daylight, glare, outdoor comfort, and similar analysis methods related to occupant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to graphically illustrate and verbally communicate sustainability concepts in a clear and effective manner.
  • Organizational and critical thinking skills to create materials for engaging and creative presentations through storytelling.
  • Experience and proficiency in navigating and utilizing architectural project documents, including drawing sets and specifications.
Base Salary Range

$65,000 - $85,000 annually depending on skills and experience
