Job summary

HII—America’s largest shipbuilder—offers a 2027 Sustainability summer intern opportunity at our Corporate Headquarters in Newport News, VA. This 10-week program provides exposure to business, finance, IT, and legal/government affairs while supporting leaders shaping HII’s future.

You will report to the Corporate Director of Sustainability and work with cross-functional teams to operationalize sustainability objectives and manage projects, data, and regulatory preparations.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Official transcripts will be required)
• Be enrolled in a relevant degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements (Business Management, Accounting, Economics/Finance, IT, Communications, Marketing, HR)
• Currently attending a 4 year college or university and ideally will be a rising Junior or above, or enrolled in a relevant Master's program
• Ability to work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer

Responsibilities

• Report to and take direction directly from HII’s Corporate Director of Sustainability
• Provide general support for operationalizing sustainability objectives with cross-functional teams
• Assist with project management and document progress and changes for transparency
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to remove impediments and maintain momentum
• Assist on projects to mature the Company’s sustainability program and long-term goals
• Assist with Sustainability data management and analysis
• Assist with preparations for meeting regulatory requirements
