Job summary

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert seeks a Sustainability & Behavior Change Staff member to help advance waste reduction, conserve resources, and promote eco-friendly actions among guests, staff, volunteers, and program participants.

You’ll assist with recycling and composting, support hydroponic growing, help maintain a mealworm colony, collect basic data, and support educational activities and outreach, while communicating effectively with diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Passion for conservation and environmental issues.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Organized, dependable, and eager to learn.
• Comfortable speaking with guests and small groups.
• Willingness to work outdoors and indoors; lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to complete background check and training.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with recycling, composting, and waste reduction programs
• Supporting the operation of hydroponic growing systems
• Helping care for and maintain a sustainable mealworm colony
• Collecting simple data such as weights and measurements to track sustainability efforts
• Engaging with guests and answering questions about conservation and sustainability
• Supporting educational activities, events, and outreach programs
• Assisting with presentations, signs, and other sustainability communications
• Helping implement conservation campaigns that encourage positive environmental behaviors
