Veolia in North America is the top-ranked environmental company in the United States for three consecutive years, and the country’s largest private water operator and technology provider as well as hazardous waste and pollution treatment leader. It offers a full spectrum of water, waste, and energy management services, including water and wastewater treatment, commercial and hazardous waste collection and disposal, energy consulting and resource recovery. Job Description

Position Purpose:

An exciting opportunity is available immediately on our Sustainability Team in North America. We are a small team with an enterprise-wide mandate to build and execute Veolia North America’s (VNA) sustainability strategy. If you want a sustainability role where you build things rather than report on them, this is it!

As a member of our team, you will be working on a wide range of environmental opportunities across all our business units, including municipal water and wastewater, hazardous waste management, and energy services. This position works directly with the Chief Sustainability Officer, operations, leadership, and external partners to move sustainability initiatives from strategy to execution. The role spans biodiversity, decarbonization and carbon management, data and reporting, environmental compliance, regulatory monitoring, and employee engagement. This is a corporate sustainability role, which means finding the intersections where doing good and doing business align, and being creative and energetic about how to get there.

This position is based in our Boston or New York City office.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for a subset of the following:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Sustainability Officer to refine and expand a sustainability strategy.
  • Support execution of our internal decarbonization strategy, including tracking progress and analyzing abatement opportunities, implementing decarbonization initiatives and Scope 3 implementation.
  • Manage the VNA biodiversity program by collaborating with each business unit and the Veolia Group, completing site visits to create improvement plans, and managing employee engagement through our 200+ energetic biodiversity community.
  • Support environmental compliance activities across the portfolio in coordination with operations and EHS teams.
  • Contribute to climate risk and resilience work, including site-level risk assessments and adaptation planning.
  • Enhance and maintain our sustainability data structure to support internal and external reporting.
  • Develop strong relationships across business units to embed sustainability into day-to-day operations and decision-making.
  • Maintain knowledge of developing industry trends, regulations, and best practices in sustainability to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; engineering, sustainability or environmental science is preferred.
  • Outstanding record of academic achievement.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a sustainability or environmental role; corporate or industrial preferred.
  • Familiarity with at least one of: carbon accounting and Scope 3 methodology, climate risk frameworks, biodiversity assessment, water stewardship, or environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Strong PC skills are essential, with high proficiency in MS Office Suite/Google Suite and data visualization tools.
  • French language skills are an asset.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • An analytical person who is open-minded and can use data to build a compelling case, identify gaps, and drive decisions in an operational environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop rapport and credibility with people at all organizational levels, and externally with stakeholders.
  • Project management fundamentals: exceptionally organized, able to juggle multiple workstreams simultaneously, and flexible enough to reprioritize when the business demands it.
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly both in written and verbal formats to various audiences
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive to succeed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility and ability to travel around 25% required.
