Job summary

Wegmans in Ithaca, NY invites applicants to join our sushi prep team. In this role, you will help prepare fresh sushi, assist with special requests, and learn traditional techniques from experienced chefs in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Food preparation experience preferred.
  • Experience working as a Prep Cook / apprentice cook.
  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients: slice fish, cut vegetables, make sushi rice.
  • Assist in making rolls, nigiri, sashimi per recipes and presentation standards.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and follow food safety guidelines.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to ensure timely prep.

Bring your love for sushi, and we'll teach you the rest! In this role, you will help prepare fresh, high-quality sushi rolls to be sold in our store, as well as help customers with any made-to-order or special requests. You will work alongside experienced sushi chefs, learning traditional techniques and perfecting your craft in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

Work Environment: The physical demands of this work are classified as medium. Work includes walking, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, repetitive hand and arm movements including forceful pinching and gripping as well as awkward and forceful postures of the wrist, bending, reaching, frequent lifting, and occasional heavy lifting, along with continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 5 - 20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely. Upper extremity repetition is moderate to moderately high and trunk movement involves moderate twisting, bending, and pivoting. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction).The work environment is indoors with exposure to cold (33 - 55 degrees) temperatures near hot equipment (exceeds 135 degrees).
