Job Overview

Thompson Engineering is hiring a full‑time Survey Party Chief to oversee the survey crew and report survey data to the Survey Team Manager. Ideal candidates will travel to support various project needs.

Duties

• Oversee the daily functions of the survey crew
• Set up and complete survey crew on job sites under the supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor and/or job supervisor
• Report daily work logs to the Org Manager
• Relay survey data to the Org Manager
• Interpret blueprints, plans, and deeds to effectively lead the survey crew
• Drive company vehicle to and from job sites
• Operate all survey equipment and interpret data to report information to the Org Manager
• Compute field calculations relative to the survey data collected
• Effectively manage the time and schedules of the survey crew
• Maintain on‑time and consistent attendance

Minimum Requirements

• Five (5) years verifiable experience in running a crew in surveying commercial and/or heavy industrial construction stakeout
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to read and comprehend measurements
• Intermediate math skills, including trigonometry and coordinate geometry
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to travel and stay overnight based on workload of the Survey Department

Physical Requirements

• Work outside in the field up to 100% of the time
• Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Remain standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day and walk long distances
• Bend, stoop, and climb on a ladder
• Drive a company vehicle to and from job sites
