The Laser Tracker Operator is responsible for establishing and verifying precise construction control, equipment layout, elevations, and reference points, ensuring equipment is installed to the design and manufacturer’s specified tolerances. He/she will perform precision alignment and dimensional verification of critical equipment, document as-built conditions and measurements, and coordinate with QC and equipment representatives to identify and resolve out-of-tolerance conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and verify control lines, benchmarks, and elevation datums in the equipment area
- Lay out equipment centerlines, baselines, and orientation per approved drawings
- Lay out and verify projection and anchor bolt locations before equipment arrives
- Verify foundation top-of-concrete elevations and embed/sole plate positions
- Provide as-built survey of anchor bolts and foundation elevations to flag conflicts early
- Establish reference monuments and permanent benchmarks for setting and future alignment checks
- Set equipment to design centerline, elevation, and orientation within specified tolerances
- Check and document leveling (using precision/optical levels or trackers)
- Verify elevation of mounting surfaces, sole plates, and bearing points before grouting
Precision / Alignment Support
- Support shaft alignment, coupling alignment, and string/laser alignment of trains (pumps, compressors, turbines, drivers)
- Check parallelism, perpendicularity, and concentricity of connected equipment
- Verify tolerances for critical equipment per manufacturer specifications
Quality / Documentation
- Maintain survey field notes, setting records, and as-built dimensional reports
- Document final position, elevation, and level against design and manufacturer tolerances
- Provide as-built survey data for turnover/QC packages and the quality program
- Coordinate with QC and equipment reps on out-of-tolerance conditions and corrections
